Default 10 Top Fighters From Behind The Iron Curtain

With the strength of fighters from the former USSR and other Iron Curtain countries in the heavyweight division, it got me to thinking who are the best fighters from that area. Here is what i came up with, i sure hope i havent forgotten anyone. Please add fighterd if i have.

    2. Dariusz Michalczewski 48-2-0(Poland)
    3. Vitali Klitschko 46-2-0(Ukraine)
    4. Wladimir Klitschko 52-3-0(Ukraine)
    5. Laszlo Papp 27-0-2(Hungary)
    6. Arthur Abraham 28-0-0(Armenia)
    7. Vassily Jirov 37-3-1(Kazakhstan)
    8. Tomasz Adamek 36-1-0(Poland)
    9. Vic Darchinyan 32-1-1(Armenia)

I don't believe this I was just going to write up the exact same thread only with the addition of Roman Karmazin. P4P I think he is above a few of the above!

Kostya for me, is one of the most exiting fighters ever. I honestly loved watching him fight, every time!

Yes! the fact he carried hydrogen bombs in either hands made his fights ultra exciting. Even in the Hatton fight when his skills were clearly fading, you always knew if he caught Ricky with a good clean shot it could be all over at any point.

That was a hard fight watch, I had watched Ricky for years and then to watch him face one of my most favourite fighters I have to admit I wanted Kostya to KO him.

Were there ever any top fighters who really were from behind the iron curtain, that is pre Mikhail Gorbachev days?

The whole perastroika (sp ?) reforms opened the doors.I remember in the early 90's a whole bunch of guys were brought over and trained by Tommy Gallhagar...USA tuesday night fights aired them alot "The Russians are coming" or something. One was a lightweight named Sergei Artemiev, dude had some skills and was right on the brink of a World Title shot.He was pretty badly injured against Carl Griffith for a minor stepping stone belt,Career ended suddenly as he fell into a coma and was lucky to recover. They had a big Heavy named Yuri Vaulin that didn't pan out,he took some rounds from Tommy Morrison but eventually got wrecked.

I'd definatly add Yuri Arbachakov to that list, very first Champion from Russia.Sent to Japan from Russia out of Amatuers along with a few others.Arbachackov and Orzubek Gussie Nazarov reigned as champions & exelled, ecspecially Yuri.5 yr flyweight champ.
