    Default Rocky V's Dingo

Another "news" item I picked out today in the paper. Sly Stollone in talks for a pro bout against Dexter 'Dingo' Dunworth who is reportedly the oldest pro boxer in the world. He is too old for a license here in NSW so has been fighting stateside and hols 4 regional titles. He started boxing at 49, and wants the fight with Stallone who seemingly wants a pro bout to finish off his association with boxing.

Don't shoot me guys, just telling you what I read

Thatd be so cool to see. Wouldnt Stallone get bashed up though if were being realistic? I mean a pro heavyweight bout? Hes like 5"7 or 5"8. It'd be so sick to see Stallone get sparked out cold. Actually what am I saying? It'll be a dual knockdown with seconds to go in the final round and Stallone will just get back to his feet for the 10 count and the victory! You cant bet against Rocky.

A SYDNEY father of seven, hailed as the world's oldest professional boxer, is shaping up to fight Hollywood hero Sylvester Stallone.

    For real.

Dexter "Dingo" Dunworth has started training for a possible bout in the US against the actor most famous for his roles as evergreen world champion boxer Rocky Balboa.

Those in Dunworth's corner are predicting the match could be the highest-grossing fight in the sport's history.

"I can only go by what I'm being told from America and that is I'm being put forward as an opponent for Stallone," said Dunworth, 53. "The fight is for the Mid-American Heavyweight Title. I have no idea what Stallone's ability is like but I'm told he has said [before] he could go six rounds against a heavyweight, but they've offered him four rounds. It's exciting, and to be in the ring against the man who played Rocky would be a dream."

Stallone, who won an Academy Award for his first portrayal of the underdog fighter in the 1976 film, has reportedly expressed a desire to box in a professional bout to bring "closure" to the big-screen story and its five sequels.

Stallone, 62, trained as a boxer before starring alongside light heavyweight world champion Antonio Tarver in Rocky Balboa - the last of the films - three years ago.

Dunworth's US-based manager, Stacy Goodson, has approached Stallone's representatives about fighting in Little Rock, Arkansas.
"It'll be a hell of a fight," Goodson said. "It'll be the biggest grossing fight in history because Stallone's movies inspired millions of Americans and millions of people around the world. They would pay to see him fight in a professional bout.

"We've heard he wants to fight a pro bout and we're trying to get him motivated with a substantial purse."

The Sun-Herald understands a powerbroker from US pay-TV giant Showtime is willing to make the bout as lucrative as possible for Stallone.
Dunworth, who started boxing at 49, has a sizeable fan base in the US.
"He's like a Crocodile Dundee - people love him here," Goodson said.

Dunworth, who took to boxing at the urging of his wife, Cathy, walks 21 kilometres a day to keep fit after having his knees reconstructed.
He is in Guinness World Records as the world's oldest active boxer.
NSW legislation prevents Dunworth from fighting in the state - he is 18 years over the age limit - but he has won nine of 10 bouts in the US and holds four regional titles there.

"I believe in myself," he said last year. "I train hard, I am fit and, unless I'm outclassed, I believe I will win. I believe boxing is chivalrous it is the way combat should be: two men equally matched in a fair contest."

Very strange. Stallone has no place in a real boxing ring, especially not at his age. Sounds ludicrous.

Stallone couldn't box his way out of a paper bag when he was making the Rocky movies. What makes him think he can fight for real? Especially at his old age? He needs to stick to movies if he knows what's good for him.

Why am I not surprised... I wonder if Kid Thunder or Zelenoff will be on the undercard. Maybe one of them could fight Gary Coleman or that kid from the 6th Sense or something.
