Why can Pacman fight a bigger man than shane (oscar) at shane's weight of 147, but not fight shane at shane's weight?

First and foremost 147 is not PAC's weight... He will be at disadvantage sizewise fighting at 147...

The only reason I can think of is Shane's 2 wins over Oscar... Team PAC sees Shane as a bigger threat than Oscar... Fighting Shane at a catchweight below 147 will even the field for PAC...

    I think it's obvious.

Mosley is comfortable at 147 which would be unfair on Pacquaio the natural 140lber.

Both fighters should meet inbetween like 144.

Pac has listed Mosley as one of his possible opponents for October. If Pac's scared of Mosley, then what about Mayweahter Jr He hasn't even named Mosley as a possible opponent.

As for the thread starter's question, I think its because Shane is more dangerous than Dela Hoya at this point in their career. Pac needs a few things going his way to get an even fight with Mosley, thus the catchweight.

People will jump through hoops to fight Oscar de la Hoya. Shane, not so much.

Who else would Floyd have fought at 154 for? Daniel Santos?

On a side note, did you know DLH weghed in at 145 for the Pac fight? He couldn't been that tight at the weight if he came in 2 pounds under

Spot on. It is because ODLH is a BIG money fight. Shane isn't. In addition, although fighting at 147 may be attainable for Pac, it is not optimal, but it was worth it at the time because the fight was with Oscar. And there was no way Oscar was fighting at anything below 147.

There is also the idea of evening out the playing field. Shane has a huge advantage at 147, but at 144 the playing field is more even. However, I still wouldn't bet against Shane .

Its not only a big money fight, its a fight that creates future big money fights in that its a star maker, it gets your name out there.

some people are letting their hate for saddoboxer get in the way of logic. Mosley called out Pac (knowing they weren't going to fight at 147), not the other way around. I guess Mosley's just picking on little guys. Meh, I don't even really believe that as there are few guys in boxing I respect more than Shane but the one sidedness of this debate is annoying.

so it's ok for Mosely to be at a disadvantage but not Pac. Yeah sounds fair.

The problem is, if he's fought at the weight before people will obviously say why not fight there again. If it was/is a problem making that weight then Pac should say so and that'll be it.

It's simple, Oscar was shot and Roach knew it or else he would have no problem with Pac fighting Shane at 147.

Personally, I think fuck the catchweight, the fight should happen at 147. If Pac wants to fight a Welter, he should do so at Welter. Catchweight fights aren't good for boxing, we have enough damn weightclasses to accomodate people as it is.

Quite simple really, Dela Hoya calls the shots when he is involved in the fight as you all know hes the cash cow, Mosley is not a huge money fight Pac is the main man in this fight and as people said Pac is not a 147 fighter so i dont see any problem pac getting as much as advantage as possible.

    hate catchweight fights too

If the challenger wants to fight the champ then he has to meet him at his weight.

Pavlik-Hopkins should in theory have been scheduled as a huge world title showdown

instead it was just classified as a "170pound contest" something you would find in your local boxing club

Totally agree. Catch weight is bollocks for "I don't believe I can actually fight at the required weight!".

Manny should fight Bradley at 140 if he wants a fight and should wait and see where the money is. If 140 is what he wants then fair enough. Mosley at 147 is a good fight that many want though. Manny gets most of the money and another title. I don't see the issue.

But Mosley hammers Pac quite easily. I want to see it for comic value above all else.
