    Default ON ESPN's Sportcenter...

ON ESPN's Sportcenter, it was reported that an announcement was made for a bout between Pacquiao and Cotto that was penciled in for the 14th of November, 2009.

Wow! This will be a blockbuster fight, and surely a boxing fan's wish granted!

Cotto has not agreed to anything yet. He will not be willing to come down in weight and I don't blame him. If Manny wants to fight for the welterweight title, then it should be at welterweight.

I hope it happens as it is a good fight. I just do not like this catch weight business at all. Manny has proved his strength and mettle at the higher weight, so it should not matter to his team.

I agree. If this fight is for a welterweight title, it should be at 147, not 145 or 144. Same way with Floyd and Marquez. I'm trying to remember: when Hopkins fought Pavlik at 170, was it sanctioned as a light heavyweight fight? Is the Paulie Malignaggi v. Juan Diaz fight, which is at 138.5, a fight at junior-welter or lightweight?

On your second point, however, has Manny really proved himself at 147? Not to take anything away from his win over Oscar, but Oscar wasn't a top dog at 147 when Manny fought him. I'm not sure Manny has proved himself at 147. At 140, yes, just ask Hatton. But, not at 147, at least not yet.

It wasn't a title fight, so it wasn't sanctioned by any governing body.

It was referred to as a light heavyweight fight.

He is definitely a live dog in the 147 range. He has lots of speed, movement and snap to his punches. He and Cotto will be a competitive fight IMO. Cotto will have to worry about cuts and Manny will have to worry about getting hit period!hehe

I also hate a title fight in catch weight. It's really Roach's call. He knows Pac's capability than anybody else. So lets just wait for his decision.

I think Pac's camp have already stated their apprehension in fighting Miguel Cotto at the maximum 147 lbs for WW, Miguel they perceive, will just be too da*n big for Manny. During Manny's bout with Oscar, he barely scratched 145 lbs.

It was also metioned by Arum that a bout with Shane Mosely is the alternative fight should Pac vs Cotto fall thru the cracks.

Well. According to latest Pacland news article.. It is now confirmed by Pacquiao's attorney that the fight will NOT take place at 147.

I say the Diaz-Malignaggi fight is at Junior Welterweight because the Lightweight Limit is 135, and Pacquiao came in fight Hatton at 138 and that wasn't a stupid fucking "catchweight" fight.
