Punch Power: 1966 | | Re: Alexis Arguello Killed Himself :-( Well I mean there are thousands of famous people if you considered business moguls, athletes, actors, artists, kids of famous people and people who are famous for no good reason. So I mean it really is no surprise that many die and some in what seems succession.
They had the chance to touch millions and had wealth/fame for awhile.......more than most of us will get. Hopefully they didn't waste the chance to help others.

Punch Power: 322 | | Alexis Arguello: Some facts Due to the reports of Arguello's death as a suicide there are several things that point out reasons this may have happened. Years ago when the military government took over his country they confiscated most of his property and bank account. This led to a couple of comeback attempts. Then in the late 1980s and early 1990s he developed a crack problem that led him to talk of suicide. I always thought that he had gotten over the drug problems but if he never did or relapsed, that definitely could have triggered this, if it is determined to be a suicide. Just some thoughts from old news reports I read years ago in The Ring and in the mainstream press.

No you get help if you have these problem's Simple as that. I am allowed and I will judge anyone who kill's themselves. Especially a man who is a legend in and out of the ring and had no idea later in life what it was like to have it tough. Excuse me but Fuck him. I really feel sorry for his family who have to adapt now to Alexis not being there because he took a coward's way out.
I did not say anything about this man's status as a fighter which was remarkable and not to many can compare. | Depression is an extremely complex set of emotions. I was there once in my life after a terrible accident. I hated life but wore a smile to all around me. The anxiety can be overwhelming to the point where you just want the pain to end. When caught up in a low enough place, you don't consider looking for help as this is "your pain" and nobody elses. The last thing you want to do is burden someone else with your issues. Much of the reason you want to go out is because you feel like a burden, so why punish people with more?
I got lucky (or unlucky I considered it at the time). People noticed something amiss with me even when I told them I was fine. I was in another place and people noticed because I was at the point where I had to be taken care of physically and I could not withdrawl from them as most with depression do. I was forced to live with my parents because I could not walk at the time. The only thing that prevented me from going ahead was not wanting my Mother or Father finding me dead, but I had a plan. They noticed beforehand and got our family doctor there to talk to me. She noticed it also and took it from there, I was actually resentful for a while, until I started slowly climbing back out of the deep hole I was in.
So calling out for help is something that only happens when you want it to happen. Most people who truly want to leave this world, succeed. The rest who do not succeed, are usually just in a bad enough place where they cry for help, but there are vastly different levels.
When the demons run deep enough, calling out for help is the last thing you want to do. It is the lonliest place on earth.

And it's not really any stranger than someone wanting him dead and shooting him once in the chest.
I can't really see that the local media and police, would say suicide without some reason. It's hardly a more sensational story. Plus the death was reported by a relative who found him in his room at 3AM. Anyways, presumably there will be an investigation and we'll find out for sure one way or another. |

Punch Power: 776 | | Re: RIP Alexis Arguello +3906 As I posted in another thread, the news of Arguello's death has saddened me greatly. He was one of my all time favorite fighters. He was beloved here in Puerto Rico by many. Not only was he gracious in victory after his two defeats of hometown favorite Alfredo Escalera, but there was another connection as well.
Arguello just about every year paid homage to the late Roberto Clemente, the Puerto Rican baseball legend who died in a plane crash in 1972 while flying relief supplies to Managua, Nicaragua, after a devastating earthquake had killed many there.
Alexis, being the class act that he was, always paid his respects for a fellow great human being.
May you rest in peace.
