So who would have won this battle and what would have happened. I always wanted that fight to happen, and during those years I figured it would have been just a brutal brutal fight.

it would have ended on cuts...would have been a great fight for the fans.
I don't know about all that, Ricky was just a come right at you type of fighter and with Gatti adopting a better boxing style, I think Ricky would have had to slowly work on him and break him down, but I think with Gatti's heart and power that would be very hard to do.
I also wondered about a Gatti-Corrales match up or a Gatti-Castillo match up aroudn that time as well.
I'd think that Hatton would get to Gatti, perhaps stopping him sooner than Mayweather did. I think that Hatton would get the better of the exchanges. Gatti would be a tough customer, but I don't think that his newly acquired boxing style would be enough to keep Hatton off of him. Hatton has better head-movement than Gatti, and would just use Arturo's jabs as a door to get inside.
If you hear a voice within you saying that I am not a painter, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.
This was a fight I would have loved to have seen to. Personally I think had it happened in 2002 Gatti would have taken Hatton. I remember Eamonn Magee flooring Hatton around that time and I thought then that he would struggle with the top guys. But he got better and by 2004 I think Hatton would have taken a hard bloody fight with lots of swelling.
Gatti would've recieve some problems with Hatton's rugged fighting style and ackwardness. It depends on venue and what type of referee too.
Honestly, I think it could make an epic battle where both side would have chances to win with lots of drama, Hatton speed advantage vs Gatti thunderous strength advantage, ordinary defense on both side (though gatti improved a lot under McGirt, damn, he should have fired Hector Rocha a LOT earlier) and no holds barred on both side. Who would have win? Us for watching something formidable.

That's the way it is, not the way it ends
No it wouldn't have, JMM would of massacred Arturo Gatti. I love Arturo Gatti and im sad he's gone, but thats silly talk. If Ivan Robinson beat a prime Arturo Gatti twice on the outside, theres not a chance in hell he would stand a chance against JMM's outside skills. JMM's eats brawlers for breakfast.
Idk it would be a great tough fight for sure.
With Gattis new boxing style (gatti vs. ward 2) i think he could of outboxed Hatton.
It would of been a blood bath,i see Hatton winning a grueling slugfest around the 6th. Would of been the fight of the year no mater which year they fought.
I think Hatton wins pretty easily, I think unlike Ward, Gatti wouldn't be as good on the inside, and that Hatton is too quick of foot for Gatti to time him.
Their handspeed is similar, but Hatton has so much more footspeed, and he comes in at different angles. I think Gatti would be very confused.
I can only see a Hatton win really. Hatton at his best was really, really tricky. Gatti's eyes would be swelling up early and Hatton would be peppering him.
Would most likely stop Gatti in 8.
I think it would all depend on Ricky's defense, if he didn't move his head he would catch plenty of punishment and it would be the end of him. Arturo didn't usually beat many of the top rated guys he fought, but I think Ricky Hatton was right on the edge as far as being a dominant inspite of his flaws or being a fighter like Gatti who's flaws cost him in more than a few fights.
As for Gatti-Corrales/JLC, I wonder why nobody thought that fight needed to happen?? Titles or not, those guys would have fought tooth and nail every round!
