    Default Oscar Larios announces retirement

deserves a thread, very tough good fighter and if you just started following boxing a few years ago you might not realize how good he was for a while.

Most well known for the Larios trilogy, the first one I believe if I remember correctly Larios was more well known but Izzy knocked him out in the first. The second was a great fight that Larios won and while it was a great fight Oscar definitely won, he gave Izzy Vazquez a bit of a beating even though he definitely took some in return. The third I just think Izzy was at a bit better position in his career, not to take anything away from Izzy.

Thought he gave a good effort against Manny at a later stage in his career. Its easy to forget now but him and Manny was a big potential fight at 122 for a while and Oscar was just as highly thought of a champion then as Manny was. Obviously this is not news to a lot of people but some might only have seen him when he was past it. Bit odd how you remember things but I remember an interview with Roach where he talked about a possible fight between the two and how he was worried about Oscar running Manny into a right.

Fought a load of guys, Wayne McCullough being another recognizable name. Got hurt bad against Linares and fought on and eventually lost for the final time (I guess, who knows in boxing) to Takahiro Aoh. I know some people were worried about him fighting on way too long at this point. Anyway, finishes with a 63-7 mark with 39 KO's.

I'm glad he's getting out now, he has been seriously risking his health these last few fights. The second Vasquez fight was brilliant!!!

I hope he enjoys his retirement, he's earned it. He should have retired after the Linares fight where he sustained a terrible beating. He has given countless entertaining rounds and was a true warrior in the ring.

    Salut Larios!

beat me to it, yea he had bleeding on the brain after that fight, and i don't think he should have ever fought after that, but he did manage to win a title afterwards and that just helps prove how solid he was

his fights with McCullough and Vazquez were awesome, if anyone deserves his retirement it's Larios

Great news would hate to see another tragedy in boxing, especially with all the bad news we've been getting lately. He fought very bravely against Manny Pacquiao, even stunning him badly and all this while moving up 2 weightclasses.

He was a machine against Israel Vasquez in there 2nd meeting. Throwing over 1000 punches i actually didn't think it was close points wise though, i thought every round was competitive. But i thought Oscar Larios was clearly edging the rounds all the time.

His 1st meeting against Wayne McCullough reminds me, of Israel Vasquez/Oscar Larios 2. Competitive fight but not really close points wise, and Wayne McCullough took a beating in the later rounds, just like in the 2nd fight.

But overall good career and i can't think, of better time for him to retire. He gave us the fans many memorable fights and its time too call it a day.

Hope he stays retired, he took too many beatings even when he won and the bleeding to the brain should have been his last fight. A true warrior.

Larios had a tremendous career and im happy he is walking away. He fought everybody and gave them all hell. He was a great champion. From 2001-2005 he was one of the most dominant champions in the sport. I think he was a little underappreciated, buthes one of those fighters whose legacy will grow in the years to come. He has been in so many wars it is hard to believe he is only 32 years old. He is an old fighter in ring years though with 70+ fights and it is a good time to retire.

Good for Oscar it's a good decision as long as he sticks to it. Never knew he had bleeding to the brain though what fight was that from?
