    Default The term headbutt...

Just being pedantic here, but in the aftemath of Bradley vs. Campbell I've been irratated byt the use of the term "headbutt."

For me headbutt inspires notions of an intentional, pre-meditated attack.
Headbutt for me is a term that should be reserved for some of Marvin Hagler and Evander Holyfieldsmore unscrupulous work.

What usually occurs is a "clash of heads," where the fighters heads accidently collide and a cut results.

In the Bradley fight the heads knocked together without malice or intent, it just happened that Bradleys momentum saw Campbell come out second best.

Sorry for the silly thread, its just been irratating me.

I get what you're saying, I will try to stick to "clash of heads" although
intentional or not it's still a headbutt.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

Good point. The distinction is important. Headbutt = possible DQ.
Clash of heads/unintentional headbutt = Possible nocontest

May just come down to malice as opposed to a risk run in every fight. How often do you here "A headbutt occured" rather that "He headbutted him".....its already phrased as intentional. Some guys lead with the head and some lead with the chin.

There are many times when you see a purposful, blatant butt.Agapito Sanchez comes to mind, saw T Reid do it. or this guy

well in both terms the heads do clash but 'headbutt' for some implies an intention to do so.

You have a point. Butt should be reserved for intentional blows. I don't see that Hagler made a practice of it like Holy, but the first round of the second Antefuermo fight was probably the worst I've ever seen. Hagler just lowered his head and took a flying leap into the guy's face.

Vivienne Harris just had a clash of heads.

    Smile Re: The term headbutt...

I always thought Vivian was a girls name and after just watching Vivian Harris wimp out with the most pathetic fake fall I have ever seen I'm sure it is a bloody girls name!

The commentators bought that crap without even mentioning the possibility that Harris could have been acting.

Vivian was the one who went in with his head, Vivian was the one who seemed fine whilst walking back to his corner and Vivian was the one that decided (during the initial inspection by the Doc) that he was in fact a GIRL and wanted out!

Harris is pathetic... Oscar should ditch him immediately.

Well it looked genuine to me. His eyes were totally gone, you could see that when the doctor was shining his torch in them!
