    Default Hozumi Hasegawa

Anyone have any idea what happened to this guy? Hozumi Hasegawa went from fringe PTS decision to the KO artist? 5 KOs in a row!!! With 27 (11) - 2 - 0 that pretty damn impressive if you ask me.

I like that he's turned things around in his career, but anyone know who's training him? Opposition ranking? Possible match ups? Video footage?

    - and I quote from some random guy on the internet

Hasegawa is the man of his division right now, he probably won't be leaving Japan anytime soon though. I guess you haven't been following him lately he's been elite for a few years now.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

He's improved his punching technique drastically, he sits down on his punches far more now & I think he's just become stronger with age as well. I see him Top 10 Pound for Pound now. I don't know if he will come to the States, because Japan's boxing scene is pretty good (as well as more logical than ours, they only recognize the WBC & WBA). Would like to see him fight Perez or Agbeko, or even move up & take on some of the Super-Bantamweights.

he's always had power. check out his rematch with Veeraphol (i've never seen the first one). a very good showing from Hasegawa.

The reason why he isn't getting enough recognition is the hesitance of his team to fight outside Japan. Though the Japanese boxing scene is the best in Asia, many boxers from Thailand, Indonesia or Philippines travelled and fight here.

He is still untested imo, Montiel, Donaire, Abner Marez, Chrisitian Mijarez, Eric Morel will be a great prospect if Hasegawa won't be hiding in his mother's kimono.

I wouldn't pick any bantamweight over Hasegawa right now. I know Veeraphol was past his prime but he was one of the better BWs of this decade and Hasegawa absolutely outclassed him. Couple of years later, Hasegawa's stance is adjusted, he knows how to get leverage on his power shots and is overall just a better fighter. I can't wait to see his next fight.

Is him fighting in Japan for decent money any worse than fighters staying in Mexico or the US?

None of those guys bar possibly Donaire have any real marketability beyond your hardcore boxing fan. Morel is a rapist who has yet to earn his way back to anything approaching a title shot, Mares is way too green & would get schooled, Mijares has had one fight at the weight which he lost, whilst Donaire has only just had a single fight at Super-Flyweight, let alone Bantamweight, we saw how Vic coped at 118.

Montiel would be a great fight & one that would be difficult to call, but it should be Montiel going to Hasegawa who is the #1 guy in the division, not the other way round. This is not Jones & Calzaghe in the early part of the decade, it's not like Montiel is a star in the US to sell the fight.

He is untested imo, unless he fought with a different crowd this time with eyes not chinky and shouting his opponents name, i will not put him up high.
