Default Shoulder bursitis and Age a problem?

I can no longer lift very heavy due to shoulder bursitis and am well aware boxing is shoulder heavy. I was wondering how ever after a few months will I be fine to begin Boxing? and I am 19 is that to old to start and expect to actually have matches down the stretch. I am currently in decent shape from lifting and playing sports in high school if that helps.

Sounds to meyour activitys Shot Put Discuss Javalin Have not Helped the Problem Elavating the arm without proper Body maintainance could be the problem. Get someone to set you a Stretch and conditioning program and rehab the Shoulder, youre still young enougth to put things in the correct mode. Take your time get in touch with a good Osteopath the problem with good practice should go away.

The problem is that like scrap has said- throwing sports, even basketball and especially shot put and javelin because of the repetitive throwing motions and amount of force generation needed for shot put and javelin often cause and usually always make shoulder bursitis worse.

The bursitis is a symptom of something, rather than a problem it's self. repetative throwing etc over work certain muscles of the shoulder and chest which put the shoulder joint's bones into a bad position because of a muscular imbalance between the opposing muscles.

you've likely developed upper cross syndrome or medial rotation of the shoulder, like scrappy said a good osteopath/physio etc would be able to diagnos and put this right.

On one hand having a background in throwing sports is pretty good, because they don't call it 'throwing' a punch for no reason... so you should have a natural aptitude for punching already, but on the other hand- it's another 'throwing' sport and you've likely caused the problem or made it worse from that in the first place.

So if you're looking for a substitute sport, this probably shouldn't be it. If you're set on boxing, you're young and bursitis is fairly simple, so your prognosis is good, so you can box... but you shoulder get your shoulder sorted first.

Thanks for the info and I should have added bursitis was from being hit in backyard football not throwing. So hoping to get better and start training for boxing in a few months.
