The News
The WBC said Evander Holyfield may earn a title shot if he beats his next opponent (who may be Derric Rossy, very easy win even for an ancient Holyfield.) Evander (age 47) said God told him he'd be heavyweight champion again, but I don't think God realizes how hard Vitali Klitschko can punch, and if he has, I doubt he's told Evander about it. That fight, if it happens will be the worst thing God (if he has anything to do with it) has ever done to a man since he smote Job just to prove a point to the Devil
Holyfield ain't the only Old Timer who may fight Vitali Klitschko, Oleg 'The Big O' Maskaev is in line and may fight Vitali before or after Kevin Johnson (who at 30 years old is no spring chicken himself).
Shannon Briggs is coming back and once again he too is claiming he can beat both Klitschko's . His fat ass will be fighting on the Vassiliy Jirov card October 17th...I am just going to guess that he'll weigh in at 280 or higher. Briggs also claimed his loss to Sultan Ibragimov was due to having Walking Pneumonia, unlike the loss to Darnell Wilson which was due to an asthma attack, and the loss to Lennox Lewis which was due to whatever other lame ass excuse he could muster up.
The Rant
Well this is what we get in this division and it's not because it's bad or crappy or devoid of talent, it's just that we have 2 heavyweight champions in The Klitschko Brothers who are supremely conditioned and greatly experienced. In the contender department we have very green up and coming fighters and very old has beens and never was's...it's not like the Klitschko's came into the division with anyone else of similar age who reached their potential the way Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, and Bowe did, all of them had scores to settle with opponents of similar age/experience. The Klitschko's are having to dig up fighters that can even compete with them...a whole era of young fighters stands to be ruined or at least damaged by The Klitschko's reign: Arreola, Chambers, Johnson, Solis, Haye, Dimitrenko, Boytsov. This is not due to the lack of skill these fighters have, but rather the lack of experience, they have not yet had their trials and tribulations and they haven't seen if they can even handle defeat or being knocked down or even being KO'd, sometimes that ruins a fighter. The good news is Arreola is going to start the recovery process, I only wonder if he has learned anything from his experience. The older fighters in their day may have given the Brothers all they could handle, but now they are old and they cannot do what in some cases they once did (in others not so much). Holyfield won't be able to work like he used to with big time fire power coming back at him as well as guys who keep distance, he never liked that (if they could keep him off for 3 full minutes a round). Maskaev, he never was that great. Shannon Briggs, he might have looked big and tough and hell he basically knocked Lennox Lewis down in their fight, but I doubt he EVER would have had much of a shot vs these guys, he's always looking for ways to get out of fights which is why he always has excuses when he loses. Andrew Golota or John Ruiz don't stand much of a chance vs these guys or even the younger heavyweights at this point. The division is in good shape, some may call it weak, but I say it's strong. But not in a sense that it's churning out true challenges for the Klitschko's, it's deep in the contender area but very shallow in the champion/challenger end of the pool. And that's the way it was when Lennox Lewis retired.
