Default should america adopt the prizefighter series??

Its fun, unpredictable and brings in new fans that wouldnt consider going to watch a proper boxing card.

Sure the talent is usually very limited but when you stick in 8 220pound+ guys and have them fight it out to the finish its always going to be a fun tournament.

Pretty sure showtime could find time to throw the odd prizefighter into their schedule and it could ressurect fighters careers as well as unearthing new talent!!

don't know much about the prizefighter series, but isn't it basically the same thing as the contender?

    no its not

the contender is a series of contests over a number of weeks between semi-pro fighters. Prizefighter is decided in 1 night of action where in a 2hour period the winner and runner up will fight on 3 seperate occasions!!

The Contender, although I watch it...is so blindingly bad. They tried too hard to make it appreciative for the non boxing fan to like, by focusing more on story line then the actualy fights, and then running the fights in slow motion, with goofy sound effects, thus lacking all the natural thrill of the hits, pace of fights, and realism it required IMO.

It was just produced sooo terribly for this sport. Haven't seen the prizefighter, but I like the idea. I think if it could happen in that sorta format, and go mainstream in the US, it would be great for boxing. Bring in new fans.

Prizefighter is similar to the Contender in the standard of fighter, you usually have one or two ex superstars or season pro's looking to make one more go to the top a couple of journey men and a couple of promising youngsters. But the difference is it's all in one night.

I could deffo see this working HBO or Showtime or even ESPN should get a series going where they have a weight class every couple of weeks, like i said before your not going to get the top top fighters but Im sure there would be lots of willing world class fighters who are in need of the exposure.

For example I think it would attract the likes of Brewster and Toney in the heavy division who are sort of in limbo and a run in a national televised show like Prizefighter is just what they need.

Yes! It's creative and that's what we need. Creativity.

The majority of those fights last night i probably wouldn't have bothered with if they were 10 rounders on seperate cards, but the format for prizefighter makes it exciting...regardless of the skill of the fighters involved, the 3 round format makes for entertainment as well as unpredictablity, which we saw in the Williams fight last night...I think it could do well in America, in a usually dull HW division it provides the excitement everyone wants to see when they tune in for a fight

I'd like to see them introduce some American fighters (and international fighters) to the British cards.
