my take on froch-dirrell
Ok having finally viewed the fight in a sober state of mind i finally got down to analysing the contest as a fightfan.
The pace was slow right from the get go and sloppy, while dirrell made it quite clear from round 1 he was going to attempt to engage froch as little as possible and would look to win the fight outright through superior handspeed, footwork and by completely messing up his gameplan (which he did very well)
What was alarming from frochs side of things is that he simply couldnt keep up with dirrells punch volume and it became very obvious ater 4rounds this was going to be a scrappy 12round spilt verdict which could go either way.
The middle part of the fight belonged to froch, he managed to rough up dirrell as often as possible and was landing the cleaner, harder punches (not that there were many of them). Dirrell stuck to clinching whenever froch attempted to trade, using foul tactics and even falling to the floor on every possible occasion which pretty much left the ref with no choice but to deduct him a point in the 10th.
through 9-11 dirrell was once again taking control of a close scrappy contest and almost all concerned would of had this dead even going into a final round which froch resoundly pulled out of the bag to take the fight probably deservedly given the fact he wasnt half to blame for the poor contest as andre was.
The 2 styles completely failed to mesh and what we were left with is 2 guys refusing to give either any leaway thus resulting in the rubbish we got served up. Dirrell didnt come to exchange punches, take his opponent out or even engage froch in battle. What he did do was completely take frochs strengths out of the equasion and his negative tactics ALMOST worked
Froch won the fight.....just, but neither man will come away looking good from this one!!
one dangerous horrible bloke
