Hey old friend. I don't know if I agree I haven't seen tonight's fight yet but Dawson has still had fighting lapses consistently throughout his career - fight to fight and round to round - and that would be all bad against the very consistent Kessler.
But it's still possible, it's not like that's not going out on a huge limb, he's the undisputed guy in the division above Kessler.
I think its very hard to determine who would win that fight, they are both excellent fights, and Kessler is so sharp, and very quick himself. I was surprised at how close his handspeed was to Calzaghe's in every deparment except combinations, and I think that was largely due to the fact that their punching technique is so vastly different.
With both fighters being so technically sound, it would make for a great fight...
Kessler has a habit of finishing fights, and Dawson, with his fights against Tarver and Johnson apparently can't.
Dawson's superb defense might be too much for a fighter naturally smaller than him.
If Kessler's power didn't convert to 175, then it probably would not be a good fight.
"...went 12 rounds with Ali, and never took a backwards step."
I dont know.Dawson does not escalate to the next level on a dime, when needed quickly. He still coasts and gets to complacent.Kessler is a very solid straight hitter and would himself be on another level in with Dawson.I'd call it a toss up but I just think Dawson is reachable, does this noticable resetting pattern with his feetLeft hooks are there to land, especially over 2nd part of fight. He did a great job early of neutalizing Johnson right hand and sliding off,Kess has a truer straight right hand with maybe a touch more on it.Flip a coin but I dont think its a forgone conclussion that Dawson wins.Think he still has work to do,needs to stoke his internal fire.
I would pick Dawson to beat Kessler.
Dawson is just as good as Kessler fundamentally but is faster and more atheltic.
His ability to put fast combinations together is impressive and against Kessler he would use that to keep Kessler on the defensive.
Kessler does have a good chance in this fight though based on his very solid jab and the power in his right hand that would possibly cause Dawsons problems. Dawson does seem to lose focus half way through his fights and Kessler would probably be able to take advantage of that also.
I say a 8-4 decision for Dawson.
any talk of kessler's lefthook is a moot point because he has a crappy slapping lefthook.
anyway, dawson in his adamek form would win a wide decision. he's just slightly more versatile.
no way would dawson beat kessler imo - kessler is to good and would of been one of the first people to beat johnson easily and widely, possible taking him out
dawson beats the shit out of him. i can't believe people actually thought kessler would beat him.
