Default How about Mayweather vs. Williams?

Call me crazy but I think this would grab the interest of alot of people. Personally I don't think Floyd would ever let it happen but I think it would be interesting. Williams is bigger, has an enormous work rate, and the wingspan of a dragon. Williams has also shown no problems drifting up and down between weight classes. If PBF did this, I would have alot of respect for the man attempting to cement his legacy. Let me know what you think.

It would be interesting to see if Williams could still make Welter, I think his body age might be catching up with him. I have no doubt this would have to be at Light Middle. I just checked boxrec Williams official weights since leaving welter have been from most recent 157, 157, 153.5, 157.

I think Williams or Sergio Martinez would be excellent choices. Mosley/Berto winner would obviously be another choice fight.

I remember at some point a few months ago there were rumors of williams-cintron. That'd be a good one too.

Yeah I think style wise it may be an interesting fight. I'm hoping Cintron/Cotto goes through though that would be a great fight as well.

On a somewhat related note, if Pacquiao goes up to 154 and wins a title by beating Foreman, would Mayweather feel compelled to do the same?

He may fight someone of a higher caliber hopefully, such as Williams or Martinez.

I mean let's be honest Yuri Foreman IS the Paulie Malignaggi of the light middleweight division (style, skill and power wise) Which means he has a very low danger factor against someone with superior hand and footspeed (e.g. Pacquiao)

On a related note I would love to see them both move up and both lose.

Yeah, I would like to see that. But it would probably have to be at 154. I too think PWill's body has grown out of reaching down to 147. He has been in the higher weights for too lond and if he did make 147 I think it would be a mistake. Mosley/Williams at 154 is the fight. Unless PBF was willing to go 154. And Pac/Foreman is a farce. Roach is looking for the path of least resistance to history. Paper accomplishments. David Diaz at 135, war ridden and drained Cotto at 145 for his title, You'reWho Foreman I mean Yuri Foreman at 154... Give us respectable fights Pac if this is to be your last year.

when i was watching funeka-guzman, i was thinking its a poor man's version of mayweather-williams. if this happened though, i think mayweather will win a clear but tough fight.

They can make the fight at 154. Gayweather fought DLH at that weight.

Gayweather will not fight Williams. He decided to retire so he can avoid that man, as far as I know.

I find it very difficult to believe PBF will fight Williams ever. Go listen to the RA the Rugged Man interview where he states that Williams is too big to fight. Additionally, Williams doesn't have a big fan base.

If you want to figure out who PBF will fight next, look to smaller fighters who are big draws.

I agree David Diaz was the easy choice at 135 and that Foreman would be the easy choice at 154 although because of the size disparity, it will be a more difficult fight than many may think. Cotto was not the path of least resistance. No way. That isn't giving Cotto the credit he deserves. Cotto was a legitimate welterweight, a top three welterweight. In regards to the weight, Cotto weighed 145 for his last fight and had no problems making the weight in the actual fight. Also, in terms of a career, Pacquiao has definitely NOT taken the path of least resistance.

To see a good example of a path of least resistance, just go check Mayweather's resume over the last four or five years.

Williams is the wrong fight for Shane. Shane had trouble with Vernon and the same would happen with Williams. He knows that and won't get in the ring with Williams. A Cotto rematch would be a good fight for Shane assuming he gets by Berto. PBF won't fight him or any other legitimate welterweight.

Doubt it would happen but very interesting bout....

I would like to see how Floyd handles a guy that tall and rangy with the work rate Williams has.....

I would also like to see if Williams can manage to fight tall and not get in close giving Floyd a chance to counter......

If not for the height I go with Floyd but again if Williams gives the height away then that takes away any advantage he has technically

Those scenarios are all find and dandy, I am a huge fan of Williams and have been for a while.

3 things that concern me about him

    1) His best defense is his work rate and volume closely followed by his head

    2) I'm not sure he and Martinez hasn't lost a step or 3 after than savage war they were in.

    3) He has a bit of vulnerability because of the above mentioned things, couple that with the potential losing a bit of himself from his last fight and draining himself to make Welter would be easy pickings for a sharpshooter like Floyd especially knowing he dosent use his height advantage.

AFter watching Sergio Martinez and Carlos Quintana go against Paul Williams there are honestly still people who believe Mayweather would have that much trouble with Williams? He is way too good for Paul Williams who isn't fast enough or hits hard/accurate enough to keep Mayweather honest.

For me it is more about the unknown - I have never seen Mayweather fight a bigger longer fighter other than Oscar, but Williams makes Oscar look small. Mayweather would be at a four inch height disadvantage and a foot reach disadvantage.
