Wink Graham Earl making a comeback?

I heard a rumour at the gym that Graham Earl has another comeback fight in March. Looked on boxrec & indeed he does have a open date for March 13 in Milton Keynes.

I think this is a bad idea. He put up a great show against Katsidis & fought one of the fights of his career. I remember seeing him fight live against Ricky Burns in Wembley & thinking he got royally jobbed in a Fury-McDermott manner.

But since the Katsidis fight, he got starched in a round twice in a row, took a few months off & laboured to a decision over Karl Taylor, who many of you will know as a guy usually used a springboard to a young prospect's career, very rarely is he more than their 3rd or 4th fight. After this, I'd heard he was retiring and I was pleased to hear it, he's had a decent career and has a win over the very talented Yuri Romanov & can always reflect proudly on that fight with Katsidis.

But, he simply doesn't have it anymore & he always seemed a really nice guy, it would be a shame to see him become the name for young British fighters to get on their record.

So anyway does anyone have any info on this? Like whether it's just the one fight or whether he's planning to make a real run of things. I hope it's just the last hurrah

Milton Keynes? We never have professional fights here. So it would be good for that reason. But from a non-selfish point of view i would really like him to retire. He staggers around in that horrible way every time he gets hit hard now. Its nasty to see, and it looks damaging.

The sportsman's disease of not being able to let go unfortunately. Earl has been beaten too often and hit too hard, I hope he's matched very sympathetically.

Another fighter who's had a few heavy KO's on the comeback trail this year is Carl Johanneson. I think he's got more of a chance of still having it than Earl, but it's not good to see those that were competitive at a UK level get badly hurt.

Danny Williams, Carl Johansson and Earl will retire this year.

Im sorry Master and Rhun I have to dsiagree strongly with the Johanneson comparisions with Earl??

Johanneson has taken a break after a great fight with Kevin Mitchell where Mitchell's corner were on the verge of pulling him out till he truned it around, Johanneson has alot left at domestic level imo and he is supposed to be fighting Unbeaton Sykes in his comeback fight.

Some guy called Goodwin is trying to get into promoting. Earl is going to be his matchmaker and is the biggest name the Goodwin guy is dealing with so he's been persuaded to get back in the ring. It's probably going to be against club fighters and just to sell shows which apparently are going to be small-time anyway.

The katsidis fight was fantastic, i thought it was stopped too early, he seemed to have weathered the storm and was starting to get on top

it was stopped after the 5th (i think) and earl won the round, never have i9 seen a fighter pulled out of a fight after a round he had just won

Have to disagree, Earl would have lost, Katsidis has shown he has far more resilience than earl ever did.

earl was a cracking determind fighter in his prime, i think he was very "resilient", when they fought katsidis was right at the top of his game, probly his peak and earl wasnt

if they had let it go on maybe earl would still have lost but he seemed to have weathered the storm and deserved a chance

especially as he had won the 5th

    You serious??

I dont think it's any coincidence since the Katsidis fight Earl has been shot to pieces, Earl had his moments in the fight but Katsidis was hurting him with every punch he threw watching that fight i winced every time Katsidis landed, it was 100% correct thing to do and stop Earl from taking any more damage. If you seriously think Earl had a chance to win that fight you need your head testing. I would of been worried for Earl's well being if the fight had gone on any longer.

One man can only take, but so many flush shots to the head. This fight was surely headed for stoppage. We have seen Kats figth on through his opponent winning rounds, but the viewers know who is taking damage.

That was a really good fight, I really do give him credit... but what happened since??

watch round 5 again, he won the round

have you ever seen a boxer pulled out of a fight when he had won a round so clearly?

The corner had already thrown the towel in earlier in the fight, after the 4th round he was staggering to the wrong corner, he was getting bashed up I agree he won that round but he wasnt bothering Katsidis at all, Katsidis was hurting him with Jabs, the corner no there man and he was getting hurt everytime Katsidis connected and like I said previously since that fight Earl has been shot to pieces his trainer even left him after the Katsidis fight because he was worried about his health after the fight and wouldnt train him any longer.

his trainer had said before that fight that that was his last fight with him because he felt his punch resistance had gone

all i am saying is i think he deserved another round at least, he had clearly won the round and katsidis was bothered and looked like he had punched himself out

ui am sure the fight is on youtube somewhere, watch the round
