    Default Potential Upsets

I have wondered which big name is going to get knocked off this year. I have my eye on two long shots

Lucian Bute-Edison Miranda: Bute has a questionable chin and Miranda can still punch pretty good.

Alexander Povetkin-Dominick Guinn: Right now Guinn is an easy guy to look past especially with a title shot coming up right after this fight and Povetkin's chin is questionable as well seeing how Chambers rocked him pretty good and Guinn eventhough he's a journeyman now he can still punch and he's got a hell of a chin, he's just lazy in the ring. I think it's HIGHLY doubtful this will happen because Teddy Atlas will not allow Povetkin to look past Guinn but he's a dangerous fighter if you do look past him.

I can't picture Miranda getting to Bute, I would be shocked if that happens.

Guinn/Povetkin - still a stretch, but I could see it happening.

    Good lookin out though.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

if mosley beats mayweather that would be(for me anyway) classed as an upset.even tho the general opinion is mosley has a genuine chance in that fight. a mosley victory would definately be an upset

Guinn-Povetkin is a gigantic stretch IMO.

Miranda-Bute less so but I'd be surprised if Miranda didn't get lit up.

Would anybody be all that shocked if Quintana beat Berto? I know it would be an upset but not a shocker to me.

well the thread was only about potential upsets, and from what i've heard so far Berto is a heavy favorite

i agree, i wouldn't really be shocked if Quintana wins, he's actually my pick to win a UD against Berto

I think Bute stops Miranda. Bute has good power.

Miranda's punch resistance is on the decline ever since Pavlik tore his ass up.

IMO Quintana is a better boxer than Collazo and has been in there with bigger guys than Berto, also i think that Berto's power is overrated

Since when? Bute has a very solid chin. It took a massive, flush punch from Andrade to put him down and he was exhausted when it happened. He was badly hurt, but he still got up and won the fight. I've never seen anything which would indicate that Bute has a shaky chin. He's going to murder Miranda, which is too bad because I rather like Miranda.

For me it's Juan Urango over Devon Alexander, although it's not one I'm that confident about. Urango is about the most rugged guy in boxing & I'm not yet sure Alexander has the experience or physical strength to see him off.

In regards to those mentioned, I don't see any of them really happening except possibly Mosley over Mayweather, but I wouldn't consider that an upset that is close on evenly matched.

Berto stops Quintana. Quintana has shown he can use his skills to befuddle fighter, but they're generally guys with little amateur pedigree like Williams & Julio, who seem to struggle with decent movement. In contrast, Berto is an Olympian with great handspeed & I think he absolutely blitzes Quintana. I suspect DiBella is giving Quintana a last big payday, as well as an HBO opportunity for Berto to look fantastic.

Guinn just won't have enough for Povetkin. He might buzz him, but I think Atlas is smart enough to have slowed Povetkin down to eliminate those errors he made earlier in his career.

Bute batters Miranda, he's got serious power & I'm not sure Miranda has the chin at 168. I think it's a stoppage inside of 4 rounds.

Another one is Martinez beating Pavlik, which I don't see happening, but it's a decent possibility as an upset.

I would say the biggest longshot in the whole thread is Guinn-Povetkin. I just would not see that happening. Guinn iis a dangerous guy to look past if you're Audley Harrisson only

Of those two I'd have to say Povetkin-Guinn. No way Bute lets Miranda do anything close to looking like he's winning. Miranda doesn't belong in the same building as him and Bute is going to rape him in front of 50,000 of his closest friends. Guinn has pop and chin- he just has *bleep* for brains too. Povetkin better fight smarter, not harder or he'll never get the chance to get beaten up by Klitschko.
