Default Clottey vs Pacquiao ticket sales and PPV

I was reading an article on ESPN that tickets for the fight were near selling out. Went to Ticketmaster to check out the sales and it looks far from selling out the whole stadium. If they are going half-house or something then, yeah, I can understand. Still, even if the stadium was even less than half empy, ticket sales would be way more than Mayweather vs Mosley I suppose. But how about PPV? What do you guys think? I can imagine PPV will do better for Mayweather vs Mosley but ticket sales will be better for Clottey vs Pac just because of the numbers. Gotta do some math.

I hope Clottey vs Pacquiao does bad for reasons many of you have already mentioned.

Pacquiao is a drug-using cheat! Mayweather is a coward who's ducking Pacquaio!

Just thought I'd get that out of the way for everyone up front so we can talk about what the OP intended.

Regarding the PPV's, I would image that Mayweather - Mosley would do more sales because it's a much more interesting fight. However, Pacquiao is the most popular boxer in the world, so I'm sure his fight with Clottey will sell well also. I'm sure both fights will make a shit-ton of money.

I'm predicting 1.8 mil PPV for pac v clotty and 2.7 mil ppv buys for SSM v PBF.

I think that's pretty high. I mean the record (odlh/Mayweather) was what? 2.2 -2.3? I would guess half of that for both fights.

I would argue Mayweather being more popular, and he will be having a 24/7 for his fight which always seems to draw an added crowd.

yeah, but he did say "in the world". It could be one of those soccer things. Where it's the most popular sport in the world but in the USA, it's only mildly popular. Well, far less than it is in the rest of the world.

The difference is the final numbers only count US sales, correct? I mean, i know they get some money from everyone involved but when they say Oscar/Floyd did 2 million sales, they're only talking 2 million US sales, correct?

With that said, in the USA, Mayweather is the most popular fighter of the 2. He's a household name in more households. He knows how to market himself & is always on ESPN. Pacquiao, while popular in his own right, still lacks the self-promotional skills of Mayweather. It doesn't help that he doesn't speak the language either.

I am pretty sure I read somewhere they will only be seating about 30,000 in the dallas stadium. I mean still a great # of people but not for that stadium.

    Pac - Clottey = 600K to 800k buys

    Floyd - Mosley = 800K to 1.2M buys

    That seems totally reasonable.

pac-clottey wont get anywhere near the 750mark

Even the boxing enthusiasts cant get excited about this one. floyd-sugar is the superfight of 2010 and that`ll do double whatever pac-clot does easily!!

That's true especially after Floyd's appearance on "Dancing with the Stars". Even the general public that never watches boxing knows of him. I'm just not sure how many of them will watch him on PPV.

I still think Mayweather-Mosley will hit pass 1.5 million whereas Pacquiao-Clottey may get half of that. If that happens, then I'll still consider both bouts as successful. Worldwide however, I believe Pac-Clottey will do better than May-Mos.

How many countries are showing this as ppv?

I have heard that Pacquiao's fights had been shown in some countries in Asia (definitely in the Philippines) and in countries where there are a huge number of Filipino population, like Middle East. Wasn't there a poster here who at one time said that he watched a Pacquiao fight in Thailand? Can anybody confirm this and how do they show it (by PPV?)?

I don't think it's even PPV in the UK, I could be wrong though. And all I see in Thailand etc. is people charging money for pirated streams.
