    Default Hatton Says He's Done

Former junior welterweight champ Ricky Hatton, who was in Las Vegas for last week's Floyd Mayweather-Shane Mosley fight and hasn't fought since his knockout to Manny Pacquiao last May, told ESPN.com he's leaning toward retirement. "I took a vacation to Australia [recently] and when I came home I went to the gym for a couple of weeks to see if I still had that fire in my belly and the desire. If you're going to do this, you have to give it everything. It wasn't there for me, being honest. Maybe it will be eventually, but right now it wasn't. I'm not announcing anything right now, but I don't know if I will fight again."

If he's talking about retiring then in his mind he's already done and a return to the ring would not be a wise move. Best of luck Ricky in your retirement!!!

I think he`s best just allowing the time to go by and seeing what kind of mind frame he is in and whether that hunger will ever be there again.

I doubt very much it ever will be and im pretty sure that ricky has fought for the very last time, but would hate it for him to announce retirement and then a year later go back on his word

Good on him if he is done (which I believe he is).
Now he can feel free to just enjoy life, have a few drinks, maybe a pizza now and then and generally just let himself go... oh wait...

Seriously though, fair play to him. Always admired his honesty and no-bullsh*t approach to things. Have a good one Ricky!

Yes you can't blame him really I mean he has been to the very top and for him to get there again it will be a long hard road thats if he ever has a chance to get there again, so I can understand the fire in his belly is not there when he has fought Mayweather and Pac in two of the biggest fights of recent years.

I've always said once a fighter starts talking about retiring he's already there. Boxing is so hard mentally & pyschological that once those thoughts start creeping in it usually becasue you've noticed something changing in you. Maybe it's the training for fights or maybe he's noticing his body starting to breakdown or whatever. There must be some reason. Old fighters always say I could see the openings but I just couldn't pull the trigger. And it's not like Ricky just lost a few close matches, he was knocked out very badly.

I reckon he is just waiting for the best fight come along. He's hoping a big money fight with someone beatable presents itself. Im sure he can get up for that but I struggle to think of who he can beat right now who is acceptable as an opponent and I can never see him making light welter again. He will have to move up to 147 where it always went wrong for him.

He's going to get the "fire in his belly" when it's time to really stay retired. I'm calling it here now! He will claim his goal is to become world champion again in a weight class WAY above 140 similar to what Erik Morales is doing now.

Hatton was done the second Pacquiao's left hand came crashing into the side of his jaw.

Of course the fire isn't in his belly. He's now morbidly obese. Fat man don't belong in the gym it's not fun for them.

I think Rick will end up doing a naseem hamid. For the next few years any time he is interviewed he'll hint at coming back or say he's coming back, but a fight will never materialise.

He's done, if he decides to comeback now then he will be shit and lose to people he would easily have beaten a couple of years ago. Mayweather retired for a year or so, but he was always in shape. Hatton looks like he's drank Guiness and eaten pies for every one of those days since the Pac loss.

It's a shame because I think he should have knocked Khan out and then retired, but now I think he's too far gone to even do that. And that's not to say I think Khan is the bees knees because he isn't.
