with an average boxer. I completely agree. You put someone like BJ Penn who is practically the best striker boxing wise in mma against someone who is pretty solid like Carlos Quintana and he would get creamed

No way the likes of BJ Penn, Kenny Florian, Anderson Silva, Chuck liddell could do well in boxing if they trained in it enough. But if he turn the tables a Boxer wouldn't last 5 seconds in the cage.

5 seconds is a bit harsh....boxers don't usually handle kickers or anyone with good submission moves very well but give a boxer that is in shape and dedicated some 4 ounce gloves and he'd wreck whoever was put infront of him (if they chose to stand up with him of course)
I think Dana White knows full well if it looked like boxers could whip the best MMA fighters then UFC would suffer big time and I think that's why he isn't giving James Toney any soft assignment in his first MMA fight....and it's still a big risk but if JT knocks out Randy then Dana can #1 Say Randy was old and past his best and #2 Throw Toney in with someone prime and lethal with BJJ and wrestling or kicking
Only some boxers will do alright though, top heavy ones that are set in their ways and slow on their feet wont ever make it.
Others might get to the top if they work on their legs and adapt a new style of footwork for fast evasion backed by throwing the correct punch or knee at a take down attempt.
Alot of these mma dudes arms are so open as they kick; it would be interesting to see a boxer who got trained by someone smart enough to teach them how to stay in the zone and still evade a leg kick by rolling with it or getting the weight off at the right time etc; so they can still meet the attackers body coming forwards with a blow, instead of the usual interruption, block, move, create space ,then start it all over again routine as we usually get to see.
I think a boxer has a better chance in mma if trained right and not placed in there straight away, than a mma dude changing over to boxing.
Once you can fight with every point of every limb it is really hard to put the damper on yourself when faced with boxing rules, your mind is telling you to do stuff that you know you cant. So there is a natural delay that I dont think you could train out of someone who has only ever fought that way.
Mayorgas a bit top heavy, he will get trounced unless he is already in training getting used to his knees being kicked sideways.
These boxing vs. MMA arguments are so fucking lame and Chris Arreola talking shit about MMA fighters just reeks of insecurity. They're two totally different sports. I'd wager guys like BJ Penn and Anderson Silva would be more than competent boxers if they dedicated themselves to the sport. And yes, I do know that Anderson Silva lost a boxing match about 400 years ago.
Cris just needs to shut his damn mouth and get in shape...you don't see many top teir heavyweights in MMA looking like Cris
