    Default Khans Chin

I know it's talked about lots in other threads, but am I the only person starting to wonder if I was too quick to slap him with the glass chin tag?

Me, like many others have since his beating to Prescott have doubted he has the chin to take a good punch, now I'm not sure if I am being over critical of him.

I'm still not convinced that Khan is going to be the next PFP best, the fight at the weekend did little to convince me otherwise, it was pretty much exactly what we all thought was going to happen.

But to be fair to him, when he got sparked out, it was all started from the best punch Prescott has ever thrown, a punch that would have rocked most heavyweights IMO. From that punch, it was easy enough to pick him off.

So the question is, does Khan have a glass jaw? Or did Prescott hit him with a shot that would have floored anyone else in that division?

It's more his overall punch resistance. He's been hurt with temple shots, by Limond and by Craig Watson in the ams/
Neither are big punchers really. I don't think Gomez hurt him when they fought. He knocked him off balance imo but Duke McKenzie decided to go into full on 'drama mode' when he was doing the commentary.

Prescott hurt him but i'm still unsure as to whether Khan was fasting for that fight. He definitely did the year before but it mattered little because he was fighting Graham Earl and he sparked him inside 1 minute. It was that time of the year again when he fought Prescott and he didn't like right when he gave his interview in the dressing room before the fight.

Having said all that, he still gives me the impression he could be vulnerable to both pressure and a puncher. But he could also look breathtakingly good against somebody who opens up.

I would say he's definitely a little vulnurable but he's probably not as bad as the sterotype.

The Prescott punches were huge. I have absolutely no doubt that Kevin Mitchell for example would have gone out the same way had he been hit with them, based on his fight with Katsidis.

What I like about Khan though is how he responds when he gets knocked down. Against Willie Limond he got up and broke his jaw forcing him to quit a round or so later. He tore in Michael Gomez.

Even against Prescott after the second knockdown, he was still trying to get up although he was totally gone.

I don't think the kid has any quit in him. We'll have to see him against the top level guys of course but there are a few fighters who I think are chinny, and also mentally weak.

Zab Judah, Joel Julio, Kermit Cintron and Carlos Quintana are all examples of guys who can have the fight beaten out of them.

I get the feeling that Amir has more heart than all of these and won't wilt the way they did in their losing fights, just throwing less and looking to survive or find a way out.

Amir when hurt just goes toe and toe and comes back roaring.

Obviously this means he will probably get knocked out a lot harder then them but I admire him for his bravery.

But he's the sort of fighter who to stop him you need to spark him out.

No. Although Khan supportors like to play the 'monster for his weight' card whenever Khan's chin is discussed.

He could be as vunerable as he has shown in the past, personally I think boiling down to lightweight didn't help his cause, I no he stuggled to get down to 135. Time will tell tho, he's yet to take a full blooded shot at 140, it's gonna happen sooner or later no matter how good he gets his defense, until then I'm sitting on the fence.

His defence has improved but his last couple of outings were against non-punchers i.e. confidence building.

I don't think it's confidence building. It's just about giving him a chance to practice and hone what he's learning whilst getting paid well. He hasn't been with Roach that long and he probably has a lot of bad habits that needed fixing.

He needs to go to Pilkington's the glass people , they can toughen glass by an extreme heating then sudden cooling process.

It's the same thing. Pressure test your new skills = confidence building

The fact that he's yet to face a puncher since being knocked the fuck out pretty much says it all

Yepp, how anyone can comment on his chin since the Prescott fight is beyond me. He hasn't fought a puncher so how can we tell? As far as I'm concerned, it is an admission of having a weak-chin by staying away from punchers.

And I've said this before and I'll say it again...when you're the world champion, you shouldn't still be having "practice" matches or "slowly building up" because holding that belt means that you consider yourself the best (or one of) in the division. If you wanna practice, come back to England and fight on Frank Warren cards again

That it in a nutshell. He hasn't faced anyone with a known punch in the weight classes he's been fighting in since Prescott. He's shown he can fight more cautiously against men that can't even crack an egg. That's all.

The chin is still china unless he proves otherwise. He's been down several times and stunned badly. Also, the vast majority of his opposition has had below 50% KO ratio's.
