    Default Nate Campbell retires

Nate had a good career, but has realised he can't get it done anymore. Glad to see that he notices this and isn't trying to stick around, and get beat up just to earn a pay day. He's going out with some class.

"First of all, I want to let everyone know that I'm fine. But after thinking about Saturday's fight, I know it's time for me to hang it up," Campbell said in a statement. "I've reached the point where I can still see the openings, but I just can't get my shots there in time. In this business, a tenth of a second delay is too much. And in no way do I mean any disrespect to Estrada. He came to fight and won the fight fair and square, but I'm not supposed to struggle in fights like this. And if I do struggle in fights like this, then what would that mean for me against a top tier fighter?

I wouldn't mind having him as a commentator on FNF. Or as a boxing analyst on ESPN or SI or something.

Definitely a storied boxer, definitely getting out before it's too late. Respect to Campbell.

I was actually just about to start a thread asking about his status. Glad to see he's giving it up before he got hurt and I hope his financial troubles have all been sorted out. I was a big fan of his.

I think that's what he wants to do, he mentioned in the article he would like to do that. My favorite quote from the article:

"I've got no complaints," he said. "I came into this sport as a nobody at 28-years-old, ultimately appeared on NBC, ESPN, Showtime, HBO, and PPV, managed to win three world titles in the process, and made a few bucks along the way. Not too shabby for a wise-ass kid from Jacksonville."

Kinda sucks to hear. I still remember how he pretty much ruined juan diaz and how he looked up at the scoreboard tv too SEE how bad his eye was before claiming he was blind against bradley. The kiss on the forehead Ko was pretty funny too. Man wish i remembered more good things about the guy. Good fighter though.

He beat Casamayor in his prime and got robbed.

And he batterd Kid Diamond and made him quit with only 20 seconds to go in the last round.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"

Class fighter and took him while to get respect well earned. Think he saw career dawning and was lured outta division for name opponent vs Ortiz. Never forget how he called out Guzman for being a unprepared fat ass. Pedan ko one of the dumbest things Ive ever seen though and Bradley milking of the rules never sat well. He'd be great on the mic and hopefully does better then Winn dixie again.

Exactly how I feel. Nate was a hell of a fighter & personally I never understood the heat he got for the Bradley fight, especially when you look at the rest of his career. He was great heart, and you just wonder how good he could have been if he'd been in the sport longer. You gotta remember that he never laced on a pair of gloves until he was 24, yet still managed to be a legitimate 135lb champ.

Hope he stays away from the ring & I'd like to see him become a commentator, it doesn't always have to be the big names (Lewis, RJJ, Tarver) & I think he'd be really good at it.
