Default Sergio Martinez v. Sergiy Dzinziruk Done Deal

It's actually one of the better match-ups for Maravilla out there right now. It's better than Andy Lee or Zbik in my opinion assuming that Dzinziruk's skill translates to 160. What do you guys think about this bout?

Martinez-Dzinziruk Close To Done For March 12 Clash - Boxing News

HBO is coming correct with the match-ups this year, huh? Bradley-Alexander, Donaire-Montiel, and now, Martinez-Dzinziruk. Not a bad start.

    Good match-up
    Good for Martinez and Dzinziruk
    Good for HBO
    Good for true fight fans.
Many don't know Dzin but Martinez is not going with the low risk/cash reward approach.

Is it at 160 for Martinez title or 154 for Dzin title?

Not a bad fight....I mean in truth right now not as if 160 is over loaded with talent...Certainly better then a fight with Lee....I like Andy as a fighter and he brings some excitement but in my personal opinion he would not only get picked apart by Sergio he would be embaressed and for some reason I don't think Andy is mentally strong enough to handle that right now

Williams I, Cintron, Pavlik, Williams II, and now Dzinziruk. That's why Sergio deserves his p4p ranking.

Ant is right that this isn't a low risk/high reward fight. Dzinziruk is undefeated for a reason. He's a southpaw with one of the better jabs in boxing and he has great fundamentals. He'll be a challenge. Sergio better not take training lightly.

I gotta say from what I nknow of his habits through the grapevine and the times I visited his open workouts the guy is one of those who seems to always be in shape and uses camp as more or less the way to fine tune etc.....Good habit for fighters to carry with especially ones in their mid 30's.......Though he does come off as a bit arrogant and it is hard to decifer between him being confident and cocky......

I was at one for the Williams 1 fight, 1 for the Pavlik fight I was at the one he did at the 2010 HOF weekend....The one at the 2010 HOF I spent most of his workout with Butes team while they watched him taking notes on him

That sounds nuts. Did Bute's team give any insights?

On a side note his camp is not all that open to conversation to the press when it comes to his preperations plans etc....He also does some interesting things in his workouts especially during his in ring time....They set up lines in the ring using bungee chords....Now many fighters use a string in one direction or even in both from rope to rope to use as a way for ducking and head movement exercises...Martinez team uses 8 to 10 of them and he moves in circles ducking each one and if he touches one he starts all over pretty impressive because before he has time to do anything but stand upright he has to duck again I seen him do it for 6 rounds once non stop....I think it really contributes to his ability to fight with his hands so low at times.....

I know I'm gonna be in the minority but I think Dzinziruk could give Sergio major problems with that jab. If Sergio has no problem getting past that jab, then he will probably get the better of any inside fighting. Also Dzinzurik is way conservative with his defense, you wont see him opening up like PW did when he got caught. Gonna be a close one on the cards I predict.

Sergio Martinez is the man, and has become my favorite fighter over the last year. Just goes and does his business no matter what, fights anyone, and when he gets shafted doesn't even bitch about it and classy as hell in victory. Hope he gets to rake in the big cash after this fight tho, because he's one fighter that definitely deserves it. This is a big risk low reward fight tho but I don't think martinez will be underestimating dzin, don't see him as that guy.

That is very interesting, Daxx. Thanks for sharing that.
