Default Thoughts on Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz??

I've always thought Berto was a nice fighter and I don't think he's been as protected as people say.

I don't buy it. I think this is a solid matchup and I'm interested to see who wins. Im leaning toward Berto but def think it could go either way.

Berto or Ortiz? How and Why?

I think it's going to be a very good fight, and it could go either way. I'm not completely sold on Berto yet, and Ortiz heart is always in question. If Ortiz doesn't quit, i could see him winning a close decision. On the other hand i could also see Berto stopping him in the 7-9 rds. I think it's a good matchup at this point of both of their careers. Berto os trying to take that next step up, and Ortiz is trying to get back. If Ortiz loses i think it sets him back big time.

I don't think Berto has a great chin but Ortiz has shown a lack of heart before I doubt Berto is worse than him in that area....fighters can "learn to lose" and Ortiz seems like he's reached that point and once you reach it it's easier to go back there.

I disagree with your last statement. Ortiz is moving up in weight and fighting a world champion. I don't know if he can still make 140. But if he lose, the Jr Lightweight division is always there. And IMO, Ortiz can give any fighter at 140 some sort of trouble. He almost had MM. Zab can't stay focus to long but might get a title this weekend. Ortiz style makes a good fight for Bradley. And Khan is a punch away from going to sleep. And we know Ortiz got power.

Now if Berto lose, he will go to the bottom of the list. He will be losing to a first time 147lber. Will fall out of the Pacman sweepstakes. And already gave up his chance to fight Shane. I don't know where he will go if he lose.

Saying all that, I'm going with Berto, with Ortiz corner stopping the fight. Maybe on the stool. MM don't have much if any handspeed. And was able to land solid shots on Ortiz. Berto has really good handspeed and pretty good power. And Berto went into deep water with Collazo. And he fought hard in the championship rounds. If it gets there, I'm sure Berto will willing to fight. Not sure about Ortiz.

    Good fight nonetheless!!!!

This is a true boys-to-men fight and match up. I think both are flawed works in progress with Ortiz having openly questioned himself and fought a bit pensive and on the other hand Berto gets stuck in between styles and looks mentally unhinged at times. Corner seems to have to talk him up on occasion. Someone will be forced to take punishment and assert damage in return to take win. I can see both guys being able to hurt the other often.

The size is comparable as Berto has been above 150 early and no matter what scale says...Ortiz is above weight. Just look at his back and spread. Berto is more squat and front heavy while Ortiz looks longer and wider. Ortiz has been in the hurt trenches knows what it is to lose and get peeled off the canvas where Bertos biggest scrap and test was Collazo. A different style with movement and cagey game. Berto closed nice in that fight but what Ortiz lacks in guile he makes up in the equalizer...power down the middle which Andre is susceptible to and Berto squares up ALOT and jumps in off big lead shots and can be worked.

Most pleased they are meeting at this point. I get the feel both camps are taking a 'sink or swim' approach to this one. Two guys with loads of talent and potential but just not able-willing to grab spotlight and kick in the front door to notoriety. Make a statement! In Fairness Ortiz had it with Maidana and got balled up, Maidana has surpassed him. Berto for whatever reason has been in limbo and must break through. See it starting slow...feeling out and Ortiz goes boxer with movement. In close Berto gets his attention early but for the life of me I keep seeing Ortiz avoiding 1-2 fast volleys and landing hard straight in return when it gets messy. Flip a coin but right now I think Ortiz stops him late. As long as its clean either way and no bs I'm happy, Need more early crossroad type fights like this.

Ortiz has become pretty passive in the ring lately, I mean he def beat Peterson, that draw was horse shit, but still he let up on the guy ! He coulda taken him outta there and should have !

Plus Ortiz is too small for Berto.

Berto should be able to overwhelm Ortiz in the early rounds and get him outta there.

This is a bit of a mismatch IMO.

The hand speed alone will be too much for Ortiz let alone the size

Just a little observation, my heart says that Berto will rise to the occasion and beat Ortiz but I am worried about Berto. A friend of mine pointed something out about Berto. When he throws combos that finish with right hands he has a tendency to drop his left really low. He has other defensive issues so I would not be shocked if he got caught.
If you think you can......you can, if you think you can't .......you're right!

Ortiz's problem in my opinion is killer instinct. He doesnt finish people off when he has em in trouble, and tends to fade as the fight goes on. If Berto is cautious in the first half, he should take over around mid rounds. Ortiz can box a bit, but has bad habits like bouncing back and forth, he could get timed easy by a good counter puncher.I think Berto by late rounds stoppage.

I sometimes wonder about Berto's defense and how he would react if really pressed.....just don't think that Ortiz is the guy to expose any weaknesses that may be there.

chinchecker fight for Berto. I honestly think Vic has a chance if he has more confidence in himself.
