Default Give it up for Matthew Hatton

He may be limited in talent but not in heart.

No one gave him a chance and few gave him much chance of going the distance, but Hatton showed true grit in there and stuck it out, even got some good right hands and left hooks of his own in.

As you Brits would say, Matthew Hatton is hard.

And Alvarez isn't the phenom people have built him up to be, I'd put Vargas at 20 years old up against him any day. Vargas won a REAL world title at 20, against a REAL Champ in Yori Boy.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"

Complete agree, Vargas became a real champ at 20, Alvarez just picked up title.

Matt was game and he made it fun to watch, I just hope his corner would of told him to engage engage. He was stunning Alvarez when he did. Ofcourse that way he made of gotten ko'ed but atleast that gave him more of a chance.

I admit I bought into the hype and thought Matthew would get blown out in a round or two. I was wrong about Alvarez or Hatton but either way, Alvarez has time to improve and I would like to see Hatton fight again.

If Matt had more power he could've probably pulled it off too as he was landing shots himself. Yup props to the lionhearted!!!

Hatton def lacked power, and had a shit strategy from his corner. He shoulda fought Alvarez like his brother ! Rush him ! Fight inside !

All that would have happened if he rushed him would be an Alvarez KO. Alvarez looks to be a good counter puncher. Once he landed a few shot Hatton had no choice but to hold or get on his bike a bit.

Lets be realistic here guys, Vargas went into a battle for that title and then had to deal w/huge fights after that and the guy couldnt take that next step. I honestly believe Vargas was about 2 - 5 fights away from being one of the greats, however he was rushed.

I'm all for Alvarez's team taking their time to develop this kid properly, just so that when he gets in the ring with the big names, he doesn't fall the same way Vargas did.

Mucho props to Hatton though, tons of heart. That being said, I'd take skill over heart any day of the week. Having heart just gets you a longer beating.

I agree with carpetrepairhouston, which by the way I happen to believe is one of the greatest names for a poster that I have seen in my entire life!!!!! anyways, Vargas was rushed, the fight with Tito ruined him. Alvarez, let's just say has potential, but I was not impressed with his technique. No angles and no defense. Strong as hell. I might even compare him to Yori Boy.

Matthew Hatton< I got you wrong, thought you'd get smashed. Although I'd have liked to see Hatton put in a little more, he earned some Rep Points from me tonight.

Alvarez is in the shit when he faces someone his own size and with power, although it'll be exciting when it comes round.

He fought his balls off. through the cuts and getting hammered. Really showed Canello is stuck in one gear right now and had him playing face first slugger late.

i give Hatton more credit in roughing it out rather than his chin, IMO if Canelo would have had Reyes or Grant gloves on he would have KO'd him by the 6th or 7th

Hatton showed he has a big heart, alot of fighters wouldnt of continued but he wanted to get to the final bell even tho he was taking a beating.Deserves respect for that imo.

I've always hated Matthew Hatton but became a fan last night. Completely outgunned in every department he didn't back down and really had a go.

Hopefully he can move back to his natural weight class and be a test for other up and coming fighters at least.

He'd be a tough test for the likes of John Murray and Kevin Mitchell if they wanted to get in the ring with a recognisable British name.

I didn't like how Mathew would be dirty and then cry when Canelo responded in the same way.

Mathew hits Canelo behind the head and Canelo pissed off hits him back and Mathew goes cry to the corner. Mathew hits Canelo below the belt, Canelo responds with a left and Mathew goes to the mat to complain. What's up with that?

Oh Im just saying Vargas championship win at the age of 20 impress me more than Alvarez. I agree about Vargas being rush into the elites at his early 20s. They should of waited til he got to his mid 20s to compete against the elite but money talks and hype gets you there. Both Alvarez and Vargas got that hype very early because they are both better than other 20 year old. However, both are not good enough to actually continue to stay undefeated if pitted against elite.

Devon Alexander IMO would be a recent example. He is good but at 23 but I knew he wasn't going to beat Tim Bradley. He fell apart maybe due to lack of heart or just immature.
