    Default Virgil Hill

I admit, I have never watched a fight of his where he won and I know next to nothing about him, but by chance I came across his professional record and my eyes just lit up when i saw all those WBA's staked against his name (over 20 defences). I mean how long must he of been champion for?!
So how highly is he regarded in the scheme of things? Was he really that good

    I have no idea myself

The only fight I've seen of his was the first fight against Fabrice Tiozzo, I thought Tiozzo won.

He was a very good boxer but not a great boxer...the biggest fight of his career was against Thomas Hearns and he lost that one

Hill was a top fighter , beat some good fighters , he lost the big one against tommy hearns.
was classed as an unexciting fighter.

He was a good fighter, he had a jab that he used constantly and very little else and won many of his title fight in his hometown. He froze against Hearns when he should have won being the younger fighter, a bit like Pascal. Won the title again but Roy Jones destroyed him with that body shot. Hill was way taller than Jones and would have given him problems but for that body shot. Think he then went down hill had lost to a Germain fighter.

Yes that is why it was so damn good and used so much, the opposite of ODH with his left.

Superb defensive boxer but aquired taste. Style combined with being waaaay to localized in homestate hurt exposure. His wins over Czyz, Tate, Maske, Tiozzo and Kinchen, who gave Hearns hell, were solid. He just ignited Kinchen in brutal fashion. Thought Del Valle beat him after dropping Hill in 2nd round.... Waters fight had to be one of the most boring fights ever. Swear he won it on jab alone, literally. Zzzzzz. Always wanted to see yng Michael Moorer get a crack at him. Dude was a class act too, seemed nice as can be.

Basically what everyone else said, a good/solid fighter with a solid left jab. But nothing special despite all those title defenses, he lost handily to Dariusz Michalczewski who outjabbed Virgil Hill totally. And as other's have said froze against Tommy Hearns who was past his peak.

But Virgil Hill did have some underrated wins, he won the title off Leslie Stewart who had a classic with Marvin Johnson. And fighters like Tiozzo, Kinchen, Czyz, were no mugs either.

But i just feel he was nothing special, despite as i said all those title defense's he made. The only thing that stood out about him to me was his left jab. But it was impressive how he destroyed Kinchen, Tiozzo, in only 1 round and considering he only had 40 percent KO ratio.
