Default UFC 129 Promo-All 7 Current UFC Champs available for Q&A vs Boxing promos & pressers

Hey guys (for all those that are interested), not sure who has seen this yet, but basically as part of the UFC 129 promo, the UFC organised to have all 7 of their current title holders available on stage for a Q&A session with Joe Rogan.

About this promo I want to touch on a few things as points of interest and possible discussion. The first point I want to make is, what a great way to promote your organisation! They had all the champs on stage, and very well presented as well. I know there are still many boxers during pressers that will still where a suit but I believe having all 7 champs suited up is a great and professional way to represent the company. I'm sure mathamatically it was always going to happen but they also had GSP sitting in the middle of the row of 7 and of course this presser was in Toronto Canada, home of GSP. I did like how that played out as Joe Rogan called him, he of course got the loudest cheer. The way the champs were sat were from right to left with the weights rising, so you had WW Champ GSP sitting next to MW Champ Anderson Silve and Silva then sitting next to LHW Champ Jonny Bones Jones.

Which brings me to my next couple of points. Provided GSP and Silva get through their next scheduled tilte defenses, these 2 are apparently on a collision course for lb4lb MMA glory. To be honest, GSP is always an uptight character b4 fights, but I seem to think based on how I interpreted his body language, he looked awfully uncomfortable sitting next to Anderson Silva. And funnily enough, before Joe Rogan could ask him about that potential match-up, GSP high tailed it out of there reasoning that he needed to get ready for his weigh-in. I also wanna mention that seeing the 2 of them sitting next to each other I saw a massive size difference between GSP and Silva. I know GSP was probably at a drained weight coz of weigh-ins but I still think if these 2 were to ever meet, come fight night, Silva would be massive in comparison to Georges.

I also want to mention the other potential match-up people are talking about (which I think is a bit premature), the dude sitting to Anderson Silva's left. UFC LHW Champ Jon Jones. I didn't like seeing Jon Jones hugging up to Silva in a playful manner. This to me also showed that he was a little uncomfortable around who many believe is the real lb4lb MMA king Silva. I think it just made Jones look like a little kid sucking up to the cool kid in the school playground.

Anyway the fact that the UFC was able to put this together is one of the reasons many feel it is starting to take over boxing. I love boxing and can't wait to see our lb4lb pound king back in the ring v Mosley next week but I mean the UFC was able to put all 7 champs on display and even have potential mega fight characters along side each other. I know it obviously helps when you fight under the same banner and Bob Arum tries to do stuff like this all the time with his Top Rank stable but how many mega fights has boxing lost all because we can't even get the 2 fighters in the same room for negotiations (i.e Pac v Floyd). I mean boxing has shown when we can get a mega fight with 2 mega superstars to sign to fight, the pressers and promo tours are off the hook and piss all over UFC promos, unfortunately this does not happen enough.

All in all check out the vid on like sherdog.com and stuff, I found it really cool. Feel free to reply anything to my thread (hahah) peace!

Cool idea, I haven't seen the video yet though.

I like that some of the champs and fighters always wear suits. Guys like GSP, Machida, Edgar, Rashad, etc. make the sport look better. It helps to shed the "human cockfighting" image.

In regards to GSP vs Silva: I think you're right about the size difference being too much. Until about a year and a half ago, GSP was an average sized WW (Zahabi says he'll weigh about 193 tonight, 10 pounds more than he weighed against Alves July '09), while Silva starts his camps around 220 and cuts from around 205. 13 pounds (~6 kg) is a huge difference in this sport at that level, plus Silva's like 4 inches (10 cm) taller with gorilla arms. GSP has the style to beat him, but there's weightclasses for a reason.

On Jones vs Silva: Silva said last week that he a Jones are great friends now and could never fight him. It'd be an interesting fight, but Jones is around 220 on fight night. I think Silva's smart to only fight hand picked opponents at LHW (Irvin's a can and Forrest was custom made for Silva, though the new wrestle first Forrest might beat his ass, he's huge at 205), he's big at MW, but below average at 205. Plus, there's a lot of wrestlers at LHW, he'd lose as often as not to the top guys there.

About superfights: The advantage of a single, strong commission/promotion is that big fights get made, period. As long as both men are in the same weightclass, there should be no reason not to fight (provided they're ranked similarly: Fitch vs Koscheck ought to happen, either vs Swick, not so much). I think it's absolutely absurd that Pacquiao and Mayweather have yet to fight, and it took Haye and the Klitschko's too long to come to a deal as well. For the most part, the best fight the best in MMA (occasionally guys like Fitch and Machida have to win 8, while guys like Jones, Shields and Brock only need 1-5).

The UFC knows what they're doing, and I hope that they're on par with boxing one day and both can work together. An MMA and boxing card with title fights for both would be epic.

I kind of rambled a little at the end there, my bad. I get side tracked and carried away occasionally.

Silva invited Jones to his film's debut, "Like Water", and they started calling eachother brother and saying that they're too close to ever fight.

This "we're friends" bullshit is getting out of hand. Fitch and Koscheck, Nick Diaz and Shields (assuming Nick signs with the UFC), Velasquez and Cormier in a few years, Silva and Machida (when he was champ) etc. I'm glad Rashad and Jones are fighting, and Edgar and Alvarez would fight if asked.

Does that shit happen in boxing? Weren't Gatti and Ward great friends after their first fight?
