While all the focus is on Haye's pathetic effort and lame toe excuse, something should be said about Wlad. To me it was almost a replay of Wlad-Sultan....... EXACTLY what I feared in another thread before the fight. This was another scared, inactive fighter.... looking to survive the 12 rounds. Except in this case, Haye preceeded this pathetic effort with a bunch of trash-talk, false promises, and empty threats. He was just building hype you say? So what? Does that excuse him from blame? The public wanted AND NEEDED a good fight. Something to feel good about in the pathetic heavyweight division. And we didn't get it. End of story. At least in Sultan's case, he didn't trash-talk before the fight, so there weren't too many false hopes.
But back to Wlad. With a scared opponent in front of him, Wlad was content to walk him around the ring.... cocking his right hand but not throwing enough. The result was not as ugly as the pawing spectacle we endured in the Sultan fight..... but it was ugly enough.
And what is it with these fighters saving any worthwhile action until the 12th and final round?!?!? Hell..... let's just do away with the rest of the rounds and start with the 12th. There's a novel idea. Or maybe I'll just watch something else for the first 11, and then tune into the last round. Disgusting!! No..... it wasn't a good effort by Wlad either. At least he sort of alluded to it during his interview with Merchant. I respect him for that.
Heavyweights....... who the hell needs them? I say do away with the division altogether.
Excuse my rant...... I'm just pissed.
