Default Who was Alex "The Destroyer" Stewart ?

His record is eye popping at first glance, (43-10 with 40 KOS) and he fought all the top heavyweights of his era, including dropping a controversial decision to George Foreman.

The man clearly had power and a lot of knockouts, but I don't know that much about him.

Was he originally from England ? Sounded like he had an accent in the brief interview I've seen of him.

    How good was Stewart ?

Seemed talented, powerful, but chinny and timid as well.

Alex started off really solid as a prospect and was a top contender in the late 80's and would jump in and out of the rankings thru the 90's.

I think he jumped on the scene when he beat Arthel Lawhorne who at the time was coming off 2 decent/good wins over Mustafa & Tillis back to back and had previously defeated Booker T.

Some useless info. for you... Alex is somewhat part of the reason why Tyson stopped fighting on HBO. Merchant went off on Tyson having fought him that King said if HBO didnt can him they would not comeback on HBO and well they never looked back.

Overall he was OK, but always fell short against world class.
    A warrior nonetheless.

To be fair to George he was 43 at the time so it's not like he fought a prime George.

When he fought Holyfield he was 24 -0-24 kos very padded record , he was a brave guy , but not even close to being as good as someone like frank bruno , his power was over rated.
All in all he was ok.

A competent journeyman who had neither the punch nor the chin to succeed with the top guys. I don't think he ever beat a ranked guy. Or at least I can't think of one.

His big night was fighting with great courage against Old George.

He and Michael Moorer had a pretty wild fight, not as much so as Moorer and Bert Cooper, but wild nonetheless. After that Moorer became much more cautious. Also, he gave Holyfield a pretty good fight in their first go.

    Thank you gentleman.

I'll have to look up that Moorer fight as I loved watching Moorer vs. Cooper. IMO thats the best heavyweight fight ever.

He got blasted by Tyson due to fear, not the first, forgot he was English. He gave Holyfield hell as well as Moorer and made George's face resemble a potato.

He was fun I thought. Poster boy as to how numbers can be deceiving but he did have some decent power. He got Holyfields respect big in 2n and 5th of first fight. Awesome jab and though Foreman was near end of comeback he had yet to win Championship, and Stewart stood in and fought a smart fight after getting dropped twice early. He really left him misshapen and gory.

He gets strikes for deer in a headlights impersonation vs Tyson but Stewart had a set on him but his chin had the durability of dry toast with many kd's. Dude also sounded exactly like Tyson haha. His war with Sellars was one of the best hvy scraps in many years, just brutal.

Watched the fight with Moorer on youtube. It was a damn good fight and very interesting listening to Big George call the fight as he would go on to face both men.

Also the average # of punches Stewart had thrown in his fights previous was 86 per round.

Compare that to David Haye and Wlad Klitschko
