Thread: Fortuitous / Prescient Announcing

While watching the always entertaining Terry Norris v Julian Jackson fight, I noticed a timely statement from Dan Deirdoff.

Norris was out-boxing the Champ and landing the heavier blows in a dominant 1+ rounds. At best, the 1-punch KO artist on the receiving end of these crisp rapid-fire blows was just beginning to find his range. But at 1:42 in the 2nd, for very little reason whatsoever, other than to demonstrate psychic ability, Deirdoff says;

“Again, the incredible Knockout ratio from Julian Jackson.”

At that very moment, BOOM!…one of the greatest 1-punch KO’s in boxing history.



Unlike the beautiful Foreman-Moorer “It Happened!”, this occurred before the salient action. The only other one I have off the top of my head is this:

ODLH v Quartey: As the final round begins, Jim Lampley presciently says:

"ODLA has a reputation as an amateur and a professional of fighting great closing rounds when he needs to. Never in his long career has he more badly needed a great closing round than right now."

2 seconds later: BOOM! Quartey hits the canvas. For background music, George Foreman’s rumblings about ODLH being “the bravest man in the ring” didn’ t hurt.



So, what other examples are there?

THAT's funny! The same phenomenon sort of happened with Atlas and Michael Moorer in the Foreman fight.

Hope no one minds a little threadurrection. Here's another one. Pernel Whitaker is fighting Felix Trinidad flat-fotted, and winning. Depsite this, George Foreman warns; "this guy [Trinidad] can hit." Then, at that very moment....

Forward to about 9:40 in....

Just happened days ago when Curtis Stevens KO'd Elvin Ayala in the 1st with a brutal left hook.

B.J. Flores says "Curtis has a great left hook" or something to that effect and a few seconds later POW !

Ayala got up, but was soon finished by an onslaught and another left hook.

How weird is that!? I swear to god I only saw this fight for the first time yesterday!

I know Sweat P lost but man I've got mad respect for him!

Here's a very close one, by George Foreman (again). Holyfield - Bowe I, the classic 10th round. At around 38:20 in, Big George warns that Bowe may put Holyfield on the canvas for the first time in his career.

Then, as Lampley considers Foreman's prediction, Bowe lands the big uppercut that begins one of the most dramatic sequences in boxing history. Of course, Evander never actually hits the canvas. But George was eerily timely nonetheless.
