Default Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich fight thread on Epix

An afternoon card here in North America, it might be worth watching, let's hope Chagaev kicks Povetkin's ass and Teddy has a nervous breakdown. Helenius vs. Liakhovich should be interesting, we get to see if Helenius is the real deal.

    August 27
At Erfurt, Germany (Epix): Alexander Povetkin vs. Ruslan Chagaev, 12 rounds, for vacant WBA "regular" heavyweight title; Robert Helenius vs. Sergei Liakhovich, 12 rounds, heavyweights; Artur Hein vs. Tony Averlant, 12 rounds, light heayweights.

Not interested in heavyweight division much right now but I am curious about Helenius. I actually hope that Atlas has done some things with Povetkin because it would make a good story. If he dominates Chagaev it would stir up some interest in the heavyweight division and a meeting between him and one of the Klits IMO

European fans will have it for free in ARD. Good, competitive heavyweight fights.

Erics44 is pretty hype about these heavyweight fights. I see Chagaev v. Povetkin as a good stepping stone fight for the winner. Helenius is a bit overrated, but I see him getting by Liakhovitch

Povetkin and Helenius should win. Povetkin has a chance to look spectacular if he fights correctly as Ruslan has slowed down and was never a huge puncher. Helenius should have little trouble with Liakhovich as Sergei never had much power either, but he's a game fighter that's for certain!

Should be some entertaining fights saturday, if we can get Epix or another stream here in the States, and it's fights that most Saddoboxing members can watch at a decent hour.

I am not sure why people think Helenius is overrated. He has had only 15 fights. I'd say he is a good prospect at this point but that's about it.

You are correct. I didn't mean to be too negative on him. I see him as a decent big guy and that's about it, but I'm wrong to say he is overrated at this stage.

Hey that's ok. I have seen similar comments at another site. Let's see what he does in the next year or so. I hope they keep him busy and hungry and progress him at a good steady pace.

Truthfully, for the amount of publicity he gets, I would say Seth Mitchell is being as overrated as Helenius and Helenius has been in tougher than Mitchell.

Povetkin/ Chagaev is a good match-up & the winner puts himself in a good position for bigger fights.

    Helenius should get by Liakhovich

Povetkin-Chagaev just got a lot closer in my opinion. Teddy Atlas dished out the dirt on the short camp he had Povetkin in. Apparently the same shit is still going down, Povetkin's managers are doing one thing when Teddy wants to do something else. Teddy wanted to start camp in the US, Povetkin never came over, Teddy wanted Povetkin sparring and doing ring work, and he hadn't, and Atlas damn near quit (again....such a Drama Queen) but Povetkin's dedication to him as a trainer kept him in. Teddy has said Povetkin isn't in really good boxing shape so maybe this closes the gap because Chagaev will be around til the bell rings to end the fight, he's NOT getting KO'd that's for sure.

El Kabong, I've read commentary elsewhere where the author looked at this fight as a fight between a good athlete/raw boxer in Povetkin and a better technical boxer/not-as-good athlete in Chagaev. The same author picked Povetkin because of his natural abilities and because Chagaev is aging (struggled with Travis Walker). How do you feel about this?
