This is probably the most significant boxing news of the year. I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread about it yet. Ken Hershman is a real tried and true boxing guy who understands the sport and the ins and outs of negotiating with promoters and management. He is innovate as he was the person behind the super six concept. If you recall the fight camp 360 episodes, at least in front of the camera, he stood up to the promoters. In many years at Showtime his boxing programming compared well with HBO's with barely a third of the budget. Thus, he did more with less. He knows value. If he brings that kind of attitude to the boxing programming at HBO, it could be game changing for the sport. There is a lot of potential for this move to literally transform boxing. I may be hyping this too much, but I really believe this could be great. Of course, he could succumb to the pressures of Al Haymon, Bob Arum, and Richard Shaeffer, but I don't see why HBO would hire him if they just wanted to continue with the same old pattern. They hired him for change. Big move. Well done HBO.
