Lightbulb Final thoughts on Pac-JMM III

As i've mentioned in other threads, I had a crappy stream Nov. 12th and couldn't see or score the fight properly. During and after the fight all I heard is how dominate Marquez was, or how the "Majority of boxing fans" and those at ringside thought he clearly won the fight, but was robbed/screwed on the scorecards. And furthermore, Lederman must be a senile imbecile, the HBO announcers, "Cheater" Pacquiao, Roach, Arum and the judges who scored the fight for Pac must all be crooks and part of a giant conspiracy, what a load of bullshit.

Since this past Saturday, i've watched the replay 3 times, and concluded each time that Pacquiao won 7 of the 12 rounds. I really could not find more than 5 rounds to give to Marquez, and to be honest, round 2 that I gave to Marquez looked to be even.

Marquez: It was a brilliant performance by him, but not as great as some seem to think. Marquez countered well, landed some big shots that shook Pacquiao, and held his own in many of the big exchanges. He also missed, fell short of the mark and had many of his punches blocked, out of the 5 rounds I scored for JMM in the fight, in only 1 or 2 did he seem somewhat 'dominate'. Marquez didn't get screwed, he simply got outworked.

Pacquiao: Did not look like his normal dominate self, give most of the credit for that to Marquez, unlike Pac's last 7 fights, this one was very competitive, and between 2 evenly matched warriors. But I still had no problem scoring 7 rounds for Pacquiao. Pac was effectively aggressive in most rounds, forced much of the action, and he was busier, landing more punches. It was a close fight and it wasn't pretty at times, but I had Pac winning 7-5 or 7-4-1 even in rounds.

I'm not going to get into the reasons why I believe so many had Marquez dominating or winning this fight, and i'm not going to get into a pissing match, this just the way I saw it going down folks. I believe that no matter how many times these 2 fought it would end in controversy.

Just wanted to add: at this point, a 4th fight between these 2 is kinda pointless, chances are it would end controversially, just like the other 3, for the time being, both pugs need to move on.

Pacquiao, if he's still got a pair, needs to see about getting a fight with Floyd in May 2012, that fight might also be pointless, but it still needs to be made.

Marquez says he'll retire if he can't get a 4th fight with Pac, but I don't buy it, there's still some good paydays left out there for him, he'd be a fool to walk away from.

Perhaps somewhere down the road, as a "farewell fight" for both Pugs, we'll get to see Pac-Marquez IV.

I thought Marquez won, but I also felt it was a close fight with a lot of swing rounds.

I definitely have little interest in seeing a 4th fight right now. Like you say, it would be just as inconclusive.

Right, and even though I don't agree, I don't have a problem with anyone who thought it was a close fight, that Marquez won. What gets me is how it seemed like almost everyone was saying that Marquez had won a clearcut decision and/or dominated the fight, which wasn't the case at all. And then all the horseshit started up about Marquez getting robbed, which also wasn't the case.

As for Pac-JMM IV, I couldn't care less if it ever happens.

great point m8 . It was a close fight . Marquez won i think, but it was no robbery and even if Pacman won, it wouldnt be a travesty

Yep, it was a great fight, there was one round, perhaps the 8th that was one of the best rounds i've ever seen in boxing. The action was tremendous, 2 of the best pugs in the world going toe to toe, it doesn't get much better then that.

Exactly, there was a lot of misinformation floating around after the fight, but one thing it wasn't was a fukin' robbery.

It's not just "some" people. Go to HBO Boxing and see the big percentage of people who voted that JMM was robbed. Did you see the JC Chavez Jr. fight last saturday? Did you see the HBO polls as well as the experts/commentator polls? It's way more than "some" people that think JMM got robbed.

Final thoughts: Pacquaio was off his game, Marquez was really switched on and gave it his all. Pacquaio was lucky to get the win, i had him winning, but would've had no problem if Marquez got the decision, so it was very close. Pacquaio has a lot going on in his life right now, (maybe to much going on and this was a distraction going into this fight?) He could be on the decline, his next fight will determine that. I would still like to see him fight Floyd in May, but i'm not holding my breath. Not sure if a 4th Marquez fight is warranted or overkill.
If Floyd doesn't fight him in May then throw Khan to the wolves and get him in with the Pacman. If Khan doesn't get Pacquaio then he should fight Marquez.

A clear win for Marquez. Pac defenders and money-hungry promoters insist it was a close fight, but the majority of boxing fans agree that it was a robbery. Not at all a domination, but a clear decision win for Marquez. It's sad that corruption exists at this level of boxing.

It's been explained far too many times already on these forums. Marquez was in control the entire fight, landing the clean effective blows - any time Pac let his hands go he would get countered. It would've been generous to have given Pac 4 rounds. For the judges to mess up not only the scores on the last fight (which Marquez won too, albeit was a bit closer), but to give Pac the win when he was clearly beaten this time round is disgusting. The almighty dollar won this one for Pac.

JMM - One of the greatest of the legendary Mexican fighters, who's been screwed over twice (arguably 3 times) now.
    Pac - Cash cow.
