    Default Orlando Salido

find it weird that no one is really talking about his last fight which was just last Saturday against unknown Weng Haya who had a not so stellar 14-4 record with 8 KO's to his name, and all of his fights in the Phillipines, well Salido pretty much looked like shit and was dropped cleanly in the 3rd and 4th, but was able to recover and pull off a 8th round TKO, it seems his punch resistance is fading a bit so if Lopez keeps his composure not to farfetched to believe he can pull off the rematch

I dont know what to make of Salido now.. I was pretty confident in him winning the rematch but Im starting to think Juanma's chances are getting better.

IMO if Juanma would use his boxing ability more instead of just trying to get guys out with a single punch he never would have lost to Salido in the first place, if he boxes and counters like he used to he can stop Salido and do it handily, if he fights as stupid as he did the first time or even as dumb as he did in his last fight it's pretty much a toss up

Clearly a case of fighting down to his competitions level. Him getting knocked around a bit was good for him. It's a reminder that he needs to be up for a fighters. I still favor him in the Lopez rematch. Mainly cuz Lopez showed in his last fight against Oliver that he hasn't changed a damn thing.

Unfortunately you're right. Talking to a friend of mine at work, we were pretty much saying the same thing. The Oliver fight was not impressive AT ALL. He got the job done, but took way too many punches. Do that against Salido.... and it's deja vu all over again. Shame.... 'cause Lopez has the tools. He can box, he can bang. He needs a trainer to get in his head and get him to make the necessary adjustments.

What did you think of Cotto's new trainer for Juanma?
    The key is Self-discipline.

I thought Salido's victory over Lopez was a fluke, I believe JuanMa smokes him in a rematch. When are they suppose to put the rematch together?

What did you think of Cotto's new trainer for Juanma?

I think he'd do wonders for Juanma. He brought the boxing back to Cotto's arsenal.... he should be able to do the same for Juanma. Particularly get him rid of his love for his own power. Like it's been said before.... that stretch of 1-round KO's for Juanma probably did him more harm than good. And like it's also been said.... Juanma fights differently here in Puerto Rico. He wants to please the crowd so much, with KO's, that he forgets his defense.

Yeah.... Cotto's new trainer would do wonders for Juanma.
    Wish they'd hook up.

I don't think a trainer would help. Lopez is a fighter who needs absolutely everything to go right. He can start off boxing and control a fight. But as soon as something goes wrong he panics. He starts complaining to the ref and he reverts back to the style he thinks will make things better. He starts looking for the knock out. He'll load up and throw nothing but power punches. Leaving himself wide open in the process. He was able to get away with that style when he was on the come up. Cuz the opposition was weak. Against better opposition it doesn't work. 3 times it's really failed him. He's lucky he doesn't have more than 1 loss. Mtagwa ran out of rounds. If there was one more I don't see how Lopez would of survived. He was out on his feet against Marquez but Weeks bad timing gave him about 40 seconds to recover. And against Salido he got his L. I think it's a mental thing that I don't see a trainer being able to fix

I think JML will win the rematch if he has a better training camp. Wasn't he just going through a divorce and battling to male weight? Salido ... you never know with him
He can struggle with average fighters then turn around and look very solid.

I like Salido, he fought well against Gamboa and pulled off a sensational upset against Lopez IN PUERTO RICO !

I'm very surprised to hear he was dropped twice against an unknown journeyman, but like VD said I think its a matter of him not training hard and fighting down to his level of competition.

Hope so anyway or he's in trouble
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"

originally they were talking about having the rematch in February with Donaire/Vazquez Jr being on the undercard, but seeing how that's too soon I doubt it'll happen at that point
