    Default JuanMa apologizes

    From Fat Dan's blog:

Lopez apologizes for remarks about referee - Dan Rafael Blog - ESPN

Here's what Lopez had to say:

“I want to apologize to Roberto for the comments I made after the fight against Salido. Roberto is one of the best referees in the world, he did a great job and I appreciate him for protecting me because I was definitely hurt. Everyone knows how much I trained for this fight and all the sacrifices I made because I wanted to give a great victory to Puerto Rico. Maybe, in my frustration for failing my country, I said things that right now I don’t remember and I want to delete, and again, I want to thank Roberto for his work.

“Also, I want to give the credit to Salido for his victory and thank to him for coming to my country to give me the rematch. There was a great fight as all of the fans could watch and I want to thank all the fans for their support. I want the fans to know that I have some things to (accomplish) in boxing and I’ll be back soon.”

    Good move by Lopez.

Hopefully this is geniune and not just a pr move, but can't blame him to much for having scrambled brains after the fight. If the ref didn't stop it woulda ben baaaaaad for him so hopefully he really sees that and maybe he can take a better look at himself and make some necessary changes

The apology was a good thing, and I believe it was genuine, promped a bit i'm sure by "Team Lopez" family and friends. After the beatings he took you've really gotta wonder if Lopez will ever be able to compete again at the championship level.

Of course it isn't "genuine", Juanma has no class. I'll bet Lopez didn't even have an input, this was neccesary to avoid a law suit down the line if nothing else.

I don't see any reason to believe that Lopez's apology wasn't legit, or that he has "no class". In my book, although I agree that it might be a bit "political", publicly apologizing and admitting you were wrong was the right thing for Lopez to do, good on him.

its not sincere at all. he fucked up and is trying to lessen the damage...he's not actually sorry for what he said just trying to get out of facing the consequences for running his mouth.

I think you're being a little hard on the dude, when he made the statements it was just a few minutes after getting brutally KO'd in front of his homies. Why hold him accountable for things he said when his mind wasn't totally coherent.

I don't doubt that part of the apology was damage control, but at least he did try to make amends for what he said.

I believe the ref has turned down the apology because he felt it was not sincere and written by his management. He wants Lopez to publicly apologise from his heart.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.

It was reported in today's newspapers that JuanMa may face some sanctions from the WBO. A suspension is possible, although nothing's been completely decided yet. Roberto Ramirez Sr. has indeed turned down JuanMa's apologies, probably still smarting from his previous tirades against Ramirez Jr. in the first JuanMa-Salido fight. He also indicated he wouldn't sue... he's not really interested in JuanMa's money. He just wants to keep his name and reputation clean. It's a shame JuanMa went off on such a respected referee. He really screwed up and is going to have to pay a price.

I read somewhere it could be as much as a year suspension, although I'd be really surprised at something so severe. After all, Margacheato practically made an attempt on Mosley's life and well-being... and HE only got a year's suspension out of it.

I thought Lopez made a pretty good effort apologizing to Ramirez, WTF does he want a blow job?

you want to apologize to someone after doing somthing like that. you call him up tell him you're sorry. that your knocked out self spoke inappropriately and ask for forgiveness.

you don't "issue a statement." its not sincere.

its publicity, and its patronizing... especially to the people of peurto rico, with his pathetic and desperate plea of training so hard, with many sacrifices to provide a great victory for peurto rico.

I thought he was a prick for saying it, but if he is able to reflect and apologise then fair enough. Honestly, some people on here would string you up for something you said whilst out of your mind in 1892. They never let go or understand how to forgive. People are flawed and they screw up, but you give them a chance. If they keep doing it it is then that you say the leopard cannot change his spots.

He had just been wobbled all over the place (again). I'm sure many would be off after being clubbed with a baseball bat. JuanMa certainly was and I agree he should apologise to the referee personally. It was a horrible mistake, but I give him the benefit of the doubt. Now if it happens again in his next fight that's when I say "off with his wayward tongue". He just isn't very smart and a stupid man concussed can be just plain bizarre.

Right, give him the benefit of the doubt, chances are he didn't even realize what he was saying. In any event, JuanMa may be finished at the championship level, why kick a dog while he's down, he's already lost enough.

If the ref, Roberto Ramirez is so worried about his "reputation" then he must not have had all that great of one to begin with.
