Would Floyd Mayweather Jr enhance his reputation more by fighting up at light middle and middleweight or by finally facing Manny after the Cotto fight and his jail time is done? Could he in fact clear out both divisions and cement his name in boxing folklore?

He has fought up at light middle, when he beat De La Hoya and wan the WBC title!

just hope one or both of them gets KTFO in May so their match up becomes worthless.

Pissed the fans about too much now and they don't deserve the pay day.

But I agree with you, this wait is to long overdue. It's ashame for either of them to even consider another fighter besides each other.
Saying that, the fight will never happen!!!
If Floyd can get pass Cotto, a move to middleweight will be great for his legacy. But a fight with Martinez will not be smart for Floyd. Better off fighting Felix Strum. Remember when RJJ won the Heavyweight title? It was against hand picked Ruiz. But it don't do anything to the fact the Roy won the title. Besides, Martinez will lose his next fight.

For me, a win over Sergio Martinez at 160 would be a bigger accomplishment than beating Manny Pacquiao.

I would agree 100% with that.

Would Martinez have beaten De La Hoya?

Hmm that's a tough one. Golden boy' was pretty damn good as is Martinez. Lefty counter puncher with a vicious straight and right against a boxer puncher with a stiff jab and a swift body left hook.

If I had a gun to my head I would say Martinez because De La Hoya tends to gas out and Martinez is always coming strong at the end.

I agree with that when considering size if they were to fight above 150. I'm not so sure it's as impressive as beating Pacquiao 147 and below.

There is no way Floyd will go up to middleweight to fight Sergio, he would get battered. Fighting him at light middle would be a possibility but the fact that he chose Cotto, who could be argued is more damaged, illustrates that Floyd will not fight the most dangerous fighters at that weight. It is a weight that is not natural to him, so do not blame him.

That was to hit the big time, before that he was no one, anyone who fights Oscar becomes a star, like Manny did.

To his credit though, if he somehow wins against Martinez. I'd consider him the modern day Leanord.

Yeah but Floyd fought a younger version in Oscars own weight.

I woyld much rather he went up to middleweight to be honest and fought Martinez. Way more impressive than beating Manny Pacquiao and Martinez isn't the diva that the pair of them are so the fight could easily be made. A great name that would enhance his legacy. Plus Martinez is a small middleweight. If you're fighting him anyway, why not take the extra risk and fight at Middle for the title?

BTW Floyd weighed 150 on the scales for DLH fight and rumour is he was 147 on fight night. Saying he doesn't take risks when he fought the best 154lber at a massive size disadvantage is a bit silly..I think he'll go to Middle for Martinez..
