Default Zab fighting in Russia in June

    BoxRec Boxing Records

He's fighting an undefeated Russian named Khabib Allakhverdiev. I believe I've seen him fight once before. Not much of a puncher IIRC.

Also Baldomir is on the undercard I thought he retired after the Canelo bout.

If this is true, this will be bad promoting for Zab. He's in line for a title shot as #1 mandatory for the IBF title. Why go overseas and fight in someone else backyard. He should stay active but make at least try to make the most out of it. If he can't staight wait and for the title shot against Khan or Peterson of when the belts goes vacant, try to spark JMM or go after Danny Garcia
for the WBC title. This is a dumb move!!! Zab needs to get with AL HAYMON!!!

Sounds odd, but if Zab is confident he'll win then it might not be a bad move. When you think about it there aren't to many fights out there in which Judah can be paid well anymore, and he'd be stupid to fight Khan again should be get the title back. Judah vs Peterson would still be a fun fight imo, and would probably be pretty easy to put together. I imagine Judah is just buying himself some time and seeing how that all pans out.

Agreed. Zab probably will make good money going there and there's a good chance he'll win. Then fight Peterson or Malignaggi.

It seems like there is more money in Russia for Zab than in the USA.

Yup, I'd say even if Peterson loses the belt Zab should try and fight him. Malignaggi can get hit by a train for all I care but I guess that would make money if they did it in New York. Judah doesn't have many places to go and won't fight Khan again unless it's the only paycheck left for him. Not sure why anyone would want to see that again either. Judah is still fun to watch as long as he is against Vernon Parris level guys, no reason to wonder why he isn't chasing the strap, we know what happens.

How about Danny Garcia? It would be a big fight in Philly/NY.

Yes definetly, and a winnable fight for Judah imo. Question then becomes who promotes Garcia and do they want to put him in with Zab at this stage? I would imagine that would be bad promotion. I don't think Garcia is special at all, he all but gives the first few rounds away the couple times I've seen him fight and Kendall Holt had him pretty fearful on the few occasions he actually decided to throw. Of course Judah could fall apart and lose to the kid, but I think based on there last fights it's more likely he would outbox him the whole way through.

Zab wasn't too bad last time out so maybe he can get the nod and move onto bigger fights. He certainly handled Paris, he won The fight pretty easily IMO.

Boxrec took Judah off the card.

Would have been a strange move considering Zab just won an eliminator.

I'd expect Judah to be fighting a higher level opponent than that

I completely see your point. However, Kendall Holt is a big puncher and many people thought Garcia was in over his head with Holt, and with Morales. Remember Morales' performance against Maidana. I don't think he's special either. He's just a solid junior welterweight, but a fight with Zab would be big money, and it's winnable. Maybe it's too risky now though.

Could be, I never really heard anything about him until those fights.. But, Morales looked like crap and still ran him pretty damn close. Solid is about all Garcia looks to me, Judah would probably still be to fast for someone like that 9 times out of 10.
