Would you like her? With the government looking for cuts during the recession, sub-letting a queen could be useful. You'd probably get her for nothing as long as you agree to cover the private jets and the palaces.

If the royalties lose respect from their loyal subjects, then it's time for abolision or abdication or whatever you call it. In the first place, that's what they are for right, to unite their people and the country. It's just that from an outsider far away, Great Britain is known for it's monarchy more than anything else so it's hard to imagine GB without the it...

I think that people who call themselves "subjects" have no self respect. So I wouldn't like to live in a monarchy.
Other than that, I believe that all things considered dictatorship or authoritarian regime doesn't have to be worse for the people than democracy. Of course it's worse in some aspects but in some it can be superior.

Yes, they were and they didn't hide it (just what NSDAP stands for)*. Their policy of coercing the people in only one right direction is similar to what present day leftists do (they call themselves "liberals" for some reason). It may seem like that. I probably wouldn't mind living under the rule of a wise dictator who is a humble person (again, a paradox of sorts). Probably, if I were born in 1930s, I would be more or less OK under the rule of general Franco in Spain.
With monarchy you have all that "subjects", aristocracy, the idea that the country is a property of a family,... really that feels humilitating.

The Queen has always seen herself as a servant of the nation. She has faithfully fulfilled her role in that capacity for 60 years. Not once in that time had she lorded it over the masses or abused her position to weild any tyrannical kind of power. People seem much more intent on humiliating her than she has ever shown in humiliating, what others, would call her subjects.
