Default Brook vs Jones: Winner must face Saldivia to get IBF shot

Brook vs Jones Winner Must Fight Hector Saldivia Next - Boxing News

BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the IBF has given formal sanction approval for the welterweight voluntary eliminator for the #2 position, between #3 ranked Carson Jones and #5 ranked Kell Brook. The bout is scheduled for July 7, 2012 at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, England. This bout is being approved under the condition that the winner must fight #4 ranked Hector Saldivia in a final eliminator to set the mandatory challenger within 90 days or by October 7, 2012.

The IBF has also ruled that neither fighter can take another fight until the elimination process is concluded. If either fighter takes a fight, he will be removed from the eliminator and dropped out of the top 10.

Randall Bailey captured the vacant IBF title this past Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with a spectacular eleventh round knockout of Mike Jones.

Pretty ridiculous that. Will the IBF then decide that the winner of Brook-Jones vs Saldivia then has to take on number 5 ranked to get the number one spot. Seems very odd to me. Last time I saw Saldivia he was getting pasted by Said Ouali i think....

This smells very fishy and all I can think of about this decision is that Saldivia’s people must have paid the IBF some inducement to allow this to happen. Now that there is a champion Brooks and Jones will prefer to fight him for the belt.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
