    Default Edison Miranda's decline

Former Manager: Edison Miranda is "a Waste of Talent" - Boxing News

Could just be sour grapes from his former manager, but the guy doesn't really bash Miranda all that much. Mostly just speaks to how undisciplined Miranda is and how he would let his weight balloon to 225 lbs when he was still fighting at 160 !

ESPN Classic just re-aired Miranda's stunning KO of David Banks in 08 and its sad to think how much Miranda has lost since then.

I mean hell I'm sure he could still KO Banks now, but Miranda tho crude, never really panned out to be the monster a lot of us thought he would be.

I was really wondering if Pavlik would get past Miranda, when he did I started thinking Pavlik would go all the way.
Everyone gets old or loses interest, maybe he's suffering from both. I always enjoyed watching him.

Good stuff Hulk. I kind of think he started to crumble in and post the second Abraham fight. I think he thought back to the first one and it ruined him upstairs even taking into account his terrible past on the streets.

Medium success has ruined several fighters and I think it did in his case. I'm sure being surrounded by parasites didn't help.

Include me in the group that was thinking he was going to be a monster.

Miranda looked awesome when he burst onto the scene by stopping Howard Eastman who had never been stopped in 50 fights !

I still would have loved to see Miranda vs. Bika, but Miranda has moved too high up in weight and I think Bika always would have gotten him.

I don't think he has really underachieved much, if at all. He has never lost a close fight really, for instance, and always was technically very crude. Even Howard Eastman had him in some major trouble if I remember correctly. I'd definetly agree that even Bika would've beaten him at any point. Or imagine that he had somehow gotten to a higher echelon, the guy would have still received serious beatings in the case. Hopkins, Jermain Taylor of years past, cetainly Carl Froch or Andre Dirrell, would've stopped him without any doubt imo. He's a fun fighter and probably could have prolonged being watchable at the top level, but in any case he would've run into a whole slew of guys a lot better than him.

He basically saw his high profile star rise and dim inside of a year but was gloved dynamite along the way and fun tv. His decline was rather rapid. I'm always skeptical of vaunted massive punchers with basically one gear and he never struck me as mentally set in stone, it showed with Abrahams having his jaw literally hanging off his head to where a seagull could fly in and Miranda is losing points and not slamming home bombs for finish. Still convinced he alone 'changed' Greens career or at least had a lasting effect on him, what he did to Gibbs could be classified as attempted homicide, just a savage knockout. I think after Pavlik it was a wrap and props to both for that shootout, but guys like Banks were there to make him look like the face caver we were all told he was and he looked rigid legged and done once he got with Abrahams again.

I heard he knocked Dawson out cold in sparring leading up to the Ward fight.

But then loses to Bellow, so very inconsistent.

Miranda was never that good and his power was way overrated. He was a hypejob a la Lacy.

I flew a flight simulator level with the Blue Angels once but all I could get on the flight line was an autograph and a hand shake

Is there a source for this ?

If this were true I doubt Miranda would ever be asked back as a sparring partner for Dawson or most anyone.

Dawson wasn't at his best leading up to the Ward fight, and we know why, don't we?
It wasn't much of a surprise either when Ward knocked him out.

Miranda prolly reached his Zeinth in the Banks fight, but 2 fights before that he got blasted out by Kelly Pavlik. After the Pavlik fight he just wasn't a playa' at the championship/elite level anymore.
