I wonder whether a few pieces of dark paper and some scotch tape would've done the trick (at least on the nearest monitors).

Strange you can't just turn the individual screens off. The pilot sounds like a douche though.
Most bad government has grown out of too much government. Thomas Jefferson
These parents sound somewhat responsible for the upbringing of their children. It is somewhat unusual in this day and age and so I guess they looked like freaks in complaining about a movie that was too old for them.
If I was the passenger I would be pissed at the pilot.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
you turn off the monitors and no one else can watch it.
do they still have to buy headphones to listen to movies? plug them in and listen to music, colour, read a book.
If they altered movies for all audiences they'd only play cartoons and people would bitch about that. When I was younger I remember they would play family movies on day flights, evening and night flights would be more adult, I guess the theory being it's the middle of the night your fucking kids should be sleeping!
Some planes are outfitted with individual monitors. These should be readily turned off, if the person so desires, without affecting anyone else. For those planes that have drop-down monitors for sections of seats, you should be able to shut one off without affecting the viewing of other passengers. I agree that parents should responsibly have ways to keep their kids busy with other things. But if the screen is too much "in your face", that's kind of hard to do for the duration of a movie. Still... diverting a flight because of a movie seems like the stupidest idea of all time.
I dont think there is a need to have violent films on a flight.
