    Default Hagler's interview

Marvin Hagler: "I will give Duran, Hearns, and Mugabi more respect because these guys came to take away my title. Not like Leonard who ran like a little girl!"

You know it reminds me of Joe Frazier when someone told him that Ali would carry the Olympic torch and he said that "I hope he jumps into the fire alongside it."
I guess when you feel you've been wronged it stays and crystallizes into something hard for some people and for others like Charley Burley, they just ride the wave and shake it off.

Hagler turned 59 today. Btw Burley did hold some resentment and deep seated that he never got a fair shake.

Meh I'm a huge Hagler fan, but putting all the bullshit aside, for Leonard to come back after YEARS away, without a tune up, and beat Hagler (even if it was by running), that's one of the greatest achievements in boxing history.

Hagler paid too much respect against Duran, he did the sensible thing and boxed him.

Duran had balls of stone too for coming up in weight from lightweight to middle to fight the god damn marvelous one.

That is true but Hagler could have destroyed him at his weight but he showed far too much respect and made it closer than it should have been.

I think he wanted to box him to victory so his victory would be one of skill rather than a stronger man.

I think hagler could have shown he was the stronger man and gone for him like Hearn's did. Duran had no right to be there fighting a close points decision with one of the greatest middleweights of all time.

Or maybe Duran does hit like a truck even at middleweight, honestly I don't know. One has to ask the Marvelous one why he did it.

I think the bigger question is why he chose to fight Leonard like he did? He started orthodox , was this to surprise Ray? Ray had sparred southpaws leading up to the fight. The big one however is yes Leonard ran but Marv chose to chase him. He never tried to cut him off. Was this in the belief he'd run out of gas?
Marvins tactics made sense they just didn't work

There was the 12 rounds instead of 15 which would have certainly given the decision to Hagler except for the one judge as well.

That has puzzled me from the night of the fight. He didn't just start off orthodox,he essentially gave away the first 3 rounds fighting right handed and had to know that it was not working from the first.
Its like he was completely blinded by the cash starting at the negotiation table. 15 million was more money then he made over his entire career. He backed down on the rounds from 15 to 12 as Master points out. He let Leonard have a 20 foot ring and then agreed to 10 ounce gloves. Leonards legs were gone in the 12th round. Had that fight been 15 I don't see the same outcome.

old man butt hurt. Hagler fought like an idiot that night. Why did he box? Why did he fight righty? He shouldve fought southpaw and tore that faggot's asshole up, from anus to colon.
