Very Good interview from Boxing News. Very close to the fight to read too much into it but Cleverly may call it a day. Nathan Cleverly reflects on crushing loss to Sergey Kovalev: 'I remember thinking if he catches me, I'm gone' | Latest | Boxing News

what a bitch, the first time he steps it up against decent opposition who isn't shot to shit and he gets owned and how does he respond to losing? like a spoiled little kid who picks up his ball and storms off home, I said it in an old thread, Cleverly would get whooped any time he stepped it up, that it was hilarious when people said he'd actually have a chance against B-Hop and the other top guys at Lt Heavy

Yes, I don't care about his 'style'... he's just not cut from the same cloth.

Cleverly could beat B hop by out working him. Getting beat by Kov shows us nothing about how he would do against Hopkins as they are completely different fighters. The difference in this fight was Kovs power and that was it. With B-hop u don't have to worry bout that

Calzaghe was 10 times the fighter, with twice the workrate and not everybody is convinced that even he beat B-Hop.

Even with Hopkins being older now than when he fought Joe, there is still a huge gulf in calibre.

Workrate alone isn't enough to beat skill, just ask ricky hatton.
Calzaghe had workrate, but he also had an X-Factor that Cleverly simply doesn't.

What do you mean 'What a bitch'? He was pretty candid and honest and he stepped up and fought someone who is potentially the danger man of the division. He lost and he admits the better man won. It's hardly bitching, is it now?

I agree with what you say but I think Kov would KO Calzaghe too. It's not a fight to judge how he would perform against Hopkins because he's a completely different fighter. I also think Kov would KO Hopkins and I hope the fight happens. Hopkins v Clev would be a very close fight IMO but I'd say Hopkins experience gives him the edge

So a guy who's just been smashed on Saturday takes a phone call on Sunday and he's feeling a bit sorry for himself and a bit lost.

    Yeah what a pathetic loser

no, what makes him pathetic is that he's contemplating retirement on that loss alone, it says a lot about how much heart he really has if he's willing to call it quits after a single loss, IMO just as bad if not worse than Freitas, Calderon, Duran, and others quitting in the ring, at least they did it while taking the lumps, hell him quitting in the actual fight wouldn't be as pathetic as if he retires off that loss alone...

Ortiz took fire and hell for saying something similar why would you think it would be different for Cleverly?

    Did you read the article?
He is saying that in the past he always said he will retire when he loses, but that now it's happened will he stick to it or not? He hardly come across as a bitch. He is just very disappointed and thinking out loud.

I've never really liked him, actually kind if glad he lost. I never considered him a legitimate world champ and it annoyed me he clung on to that status for so long without fighting decent fighters.

He's still young, so hope he doesn't quit and now goes and fights some decent fighters to build the respect back up.

I did and that's still not saying much, cause he already had that bitch/quitter mentality that once things got tough he was just gonna call it quits and run away, dunno how it can be taken any other way, doesn't matter if he said it prior to or after the loss came, the message is the same regardless

Good honest interview that. Respect to Cleverly.

A 26-year-old that has other avenues outside of boxing decides he may not want to continue getting his brain bashed in. What an intelligent young man.

Cleverly must be really shaken up to make a Victor Ortiz like comment.. He might take some heat for this..

" But the background that I got and the brain I have got, do I really need to continue ?"
