No point for The Ghost to be a stepping stone for Thurman. I think there are bigger fights for him (Guerrero) like Broner, Brook, Alexander, Ortiz or even Malignaggi. I think a Thurman vs Berto fight would be great to watch or Jesse Vargas.

*If I never see Guerro fight again, I miss nothing. the guy is an average fighter, at best. nothing special.
it amazes me that anyone can make anything of his fight with May... the guy was lackluster before the fight..and lackluster during the fight. U know what Canelo would do to this guy? Canelo ends his f*ken career inside of 5 rounds.

Exactly and Thurman is in a mandatory position in two governing bodies, He will be able to execute that right after Maidana if he wants to fight Broner or he can get the winner of Desert Breeze/Marquez. A guy like Berto would be a perfect fight and Berto needs it worse then he does.

I understand @Master point though. By beating this new killer on the block Guerrero possibly could possibly score more money in the future and up his profile no doubt. But imo not enough to warrant it at this time. Now if Guerrero loses his next fight then sure.

Man, it's boxing! I have been hooked so many times I feel like a fish. Besides, Floyd talks so much trash these guys have to have to respond or look like idiots when Floyd buries them under a mountain of trash talk.

Guererro might be getting a case of Bradleyitis. He needs to fight who his promoter wants him to fight and not start turning guys down because he's waiting for impossible fights like Marquez or a Floyd rematch. GBP have a bunch of welters and they're all fighting each other and producing great fights so he just needs to get on with it. Go and beat Thurman and earn your way into another big fight.

I don't think he has as much to gain by beating Thurman as a lot of you think. Thurman is a prospect, which means one big win and he's a big player, and one big loss and it's "ohh he was overrated, untested, flawed, I knew he sucked, ect ect" and he's worthless.

If Thurman beats the shit out of the Ghost, he's a serious guy who can demand serious fights. If Guerrero fights and beats Thurman, so what? Thurman is just another prospect who failed when he stepped up to solid competition.

Thurman has everything to gain in that kind of fight. It's a big gamble for short money for Guerrero.

Thurman represents high risk/low reward so guererrois making a wise business decision. He aint scared thats for sure.
    Agreed.

    He wants broner or maidana.

    Big money.

Guerrero won't get big money again. Maidana v Guerrero would not attract many as neither by themselves are big draws. Broner maybe but he's just getting into a fight he can't win there. If I was him I wouldn't fight Thurman either but it's not to do with money. Guerrero takes a beating. I'd like to see him fight Soto Karass. Fun fight and winner would prob get a title shot

Cant agree. I think Guerrero beats him. But that's not even relevant in this marketplace. Its basic economics coupled with not making any sense to fight him in the position he has worked himself into.
Thurman brings zip to the table and should Thurman pull it out, Guerreros career would pretty much be over. Thurman should be thinking about his two mandatory plays coming up and plan a fight that prepares him for the winner of one or the other. So imo that's either Broner or Marquez.

What do you mean he brings zip? Who should Guerrero fight next? I heard Berto, Ortiz, Alexander, Brook mentioned? A Thurman fight would be just as high profile as any of them and the money would just be as good too. A loss to Thurman wouldn't be as damaging to his career as a loss to any of those guys.

He brings no money and no legacy. That is what I mean by zip. A loss to Thurman would end his career. He's already been there by beating Aydin and following it up by boot stomping Berto ending with a 3 million dollar payday with Floyd. Why would he go back to the trenches to fight Thurman?

Btw sorry to hear about Seamus Heaney.

But would a loss to they guys I mentioned not end his career too? I get your point but I don't see much more options for him. Ie he's in no position to be mandatory for a title and can't see him attracting huge figures after his performance against Floyd.

Seamas was a good man. Met him a few times.

I think Guerrero is getting a bit slighted off the Mayweather fight. It's not as if he went in and commenced to bending over and looking for an out. He was simply outclassed and you can fill a bus with about 40 plus guys before him. Cotto nicked some rounds, as did Guerrero early on. Going in it was known what Guerrero brought to the table and beating up Berto is not walking down and beating up a Mayweather. There was babble about Mayweather "carrying" or not going for the ko on a legend in Jmm, a Cotto who was established at 154 hanging tough and Floyd literally making Ortiz his girlfriend by fights end. Guerrero popped off going in but that's his job and he worked with what he had just two fights removed from lightweight. I don't think he has anything to hide his head about and he's far too established and can even bank mega fight momentum to give it up or play the network stepping stone to a green clean shaven prospect in Thurman.

I always felt this way about the Ghost. He's an average fighter. Nothing more, nothing less. Mayweather's defenses against Ortiz and Guerrero were weak. I'm not saying that with 20/20 hindsight either. I said that before the fights.

With that said, there are three fights Guerrero should try to make and none of them include Thurman: Broner (just for the money), Maidana because he's incredibly overrated at 147 in my opinion and just waiting to get picked off, and Ortiz because it's a winnable fight for Guerrero and it might be the biggest $ fight out there besides Mayweather.
