    Default Canelo impressed me

I know most people are gonna start trashing him, saying he was overrated, average fighter hyped up way too much...

I disagree 100%. I was impressed with his poise, his accurate power jab, his hand speed, his defense, and I think he was also clever in his own right and countered well at times.

I know people will say he's shit or nothing special (I already say someone compare him to Baldomir). I think that's rediculous. Canelo is a solid fighter who is well on his way to greatness. He ran into the best and he didn't have the answer for Floyd, which is nothing to be ashamed of because FLoyd has made a lot of fighters look stupid in the ring.

To be fair he is over rated. How can you look at how Cotto pushed Mayweather and then look at the younger, bigger, undefeated Canelo and think he's not over rated?

Alot of people thought Floyd had had it tonight. They massively over rated Alvarez.

I wouldnt say he impressed me lol but like you said, in his defense he was fighting PFB.

I will say I was impressed with Floyd but of course thats not anything unusual. But he looked fantastic tonight. He goes down as the best overall boxer of all time in my book and at this point the only thing that can change my opinion would a fighter to come along to change it which would take years.

He did do better against Floyd than most fighters.

I believe Canelo has a talent and potential, which was seen in some episodes, but
    1) he was just too slow 2) no gameplan 3) his team is definitely overrated

Give him some credits for picking this fight, though it might be pure money interest
Very few fighter would mind loosing for 10 M $

Most as in every fighter on Floyds record? Yeah probably but not the world champs Floyd faced. He won one single round! He heard the final bell, big deal!

Its never accurate to say "A" fighter did this against "B" fighter so this should happen against "C" fighter. In other words the Cotto fight doesnt mean sht when judging Alvarez.

40 wins with 30 KO's isnt overrated. But if he is over rated then Floyd beat him like he should beat an over rated fighter.

He did better than some of the world champs PBF has faced.

When a smaller older tired fighter can push Mayweather and Canelo cant..... I couldnt believe what I was watching in some parts of the fight. Canelo was so clueless, he had to lay on the ropes taking punches square in the face one after the other while he tried figuring out what to do

If that had been a fighter the same size as him he would have been knocked out

Because being young, big and undefeated were all perfectly valid reasons to think Alvarez had a shot tonight. He's never displayed the boxing skills or quickness Cotto had imo, and is not nearly as seasoned as Miguel was fighting Floyd. What was Cotto doing at 23, do you think he would have given Floyd a tough fight based on his form in the Ricardo Torres affair? I still don't think Mayweather was great against Cotto, and Cotto clearly slipped badly in losing to Trout, maybe that skewed further whatever there was to take from those matchups.

Bottom line is Alvarez did hang tough, was never really hurt and kept trying, showed some different looks etc. There is nobody else who will make it so difficult for him to land clean in the future, nobody even close to presenting the same challenges around the weight. He would beat the crap out of Cotto, just for instance. It's all styyyyyyyyyyles ya know.

All excellent points above. For this reason, i was not impressed. It was supposed to be youth, speed and strength rushing in like Chavez did Roger May... instead, it really looked like Canelo thought he was going to outbox Floyd... and then didn't know what to do when he woke up out of his dream - in the middle of the ring.

I will say that being the type of athlete that he has demonstrated, Canelo will learn a tremendous amount from this fight, and will become a much better boxer because of it.

*Side note: Please recognize that Floyd just HANDLED a SuMwt in the ring tonight... Just like Martinez handled a LtHwt in Chavez, Jr. Big props

Canelo was overrated and I said that plenty of times in the build up to this fight and previous fights. He is a very good boxer but he is a level below Floyd. He is a world class fighter but is certainly not an all time great like people thoight he would be.

I wish Floyd would have fought Martinez a few years ago but Floyd is so careful with who he chooses to fight that he pronably will never lose his 0 which is a shame because we will never know how great he really is

Cotto and even Guerrero gave Floyd MUCH MORE of a competitive fight than Canelo did.

To be fair, Cotto and co gave Mayweather more of a fight simply because he let them, he stood around and traded.

With Alvarez he went back to the old Floyd of hit and don't get hit.

to be fair , any fighter who outpoints Matthew Hatton and loses a few rounds doing so , doesnt then step up and beat a master boxer like Floyd , Canelo's lack of power gave him no chance.
He was never going to outbox Floyd.

I don't like Mayweather as a person , but we should enjoy him while he is here , because he is one of the very best of all time.

Shit fight. Left the club at round 8. Perfect example of how ineffective trying to punch from earmuffs is against a guy who throws from beneath the chin and doesn't just stand there waiting for his turn to be hit. Add more skill and speed to the mix but an unwillingless to sit down on any punches and you have an absolute fucking snoozefest.
