    That much is clear.
In hindsight we can say that, sure. I didn't hear anybody calling it a gross mismatch beforehand, though.

The thing you seemed to most take away from last nights fight is a feeling of resentment. Not that Canelo proved him self as overrated but that he proved to be better than most, including you, had given him credit for. It seems to have irked you that Canelo, his team, and his fans have not had to come up with the excuses you predicted they would. He did not embarrass himself, he lost. He lost by a wide margin but he was not humiliated. It's prize fighting and whether you rate him or not, because of his huge fanbase he brought Floyd the biggest prize. For that reason alone he deserved his shot.

Good point. Still considering what this sport entails it should set itself apart from this plastic instant gratification world.

I remember Roy Jones was expressing this thought, that boxing commentators always "beat" fighters, especially after they fail. They are labeled washed up / over the hill immediately

Its much bigger then the bearded clams that are calling the fights. They are all paid for lackeys. Lucas loses the fight to Garcia and he is overrated. Its a crock of shit and the logic comes in the shape of a pretzel.

No kidding. Not to mention plenty of people on here had a pretty good handle on what Alvarez was bringing to the fight, and he didn't let anyone down. If Floyd hadn't fought him now Alvarez would've kept looking good and have people screaming that Mayweather was ducking him. The same people who will now say he " clearly shouldn't have been there".

You poor guy, if you let that comment bother you then you must be either Mexican or weak minded or both, which is it.

Don't feel to bad, Alvarez needed a boxing lesson and he certainly got it, (EASY WORK FOR FLOYD) who knows he may even be better for it, I kinda doubt it though. He better stay at Jr Middle though, if he moves up they better give him some powder puffs before he steps in against a real fighter and gets stomped again.

Floyd Sr said Alvarez would be like a sparring partner, he was right. Alvarez sparring partners are getting knocked out and hurt in training, who the hell was he sparring against. Floyd isn't a f*cking sparring partner, he's a f*cking fighter, believe it now.
Do you know what taking things out of context means? And here you go shitting on Alvarez. If you are going to do that then quit making such a big deal over a win that was a forgone conclusion. Al does not need me defending him but his initial remarks are based on what I gather to be a long running feud on this forum. If you cant say anything constructive outside of personal attacks then dont say anything. And you tossing Alvarez under the bus because he lost one fight to the best fighter in the world says more then I ever could.

Not everyone rated Alvarez highly before the Floyd fight, @IamInuit. Many of us questioned his pedigree, and alluded to his being a hype job. You're smart enough to know that when the press decides to build someone up.... they do it. There's an article elsewhere in the forum which goes into detail about the hype job that was Canelo, leading up to the Mayweather fight. A guy unbeaten in 42 fights and.... who had he beaten?? Those who thought Canelo was deserving probably have little room to talk. But those of us who knew Canelo should not have been in the same ring with Mayweather should be allowed to crow just a little bit. In the end, the results speak for themselves. It was a shutout.

Ok Beanz... let's talk about that. How exactly did Canelo prove himself better than many, including me, had given him credit for? By getting shut out through 12 rounds? By never having Floyd in anything resembling trouble? By giving Floyd less of a competitive fight than anyone since JMM? How exactly?

His most vocal fan hasn't even shown up here yet. Of course he hasn't had to come up with excuses. Once he comes in here.... the excuses will flow like the Mississippi.

And Floyd Mayweather agrees with you, and profusely thanks all of Canelo's fan base.... for making this easy payday possible. See..... that's the thing about boxing. You don't necessarily have to deserve the shot out of pure merit. You can get gifted a shot based on hype, size of fan base, and a whole bunch of other factors that have nothing to do with ring-earned merit.

That's a good point, and we are pretty shitty as fans.

We demand that an athlete take the biggest risk every time, even if it means smaller reward, and then me crucify people when they fail.

Canelo lost by a wide margin, but I say he is an impressive, strong young guy with serious skills, and I say he beats the shit out of anyone else at that weight.

Canelo was the best fight available for PBF and I have no issue with him being in the ring. That being said the fight went about as I though except Canelo's strategy. Barring a Pernell Whitakeresque fighter suddenly appearing on the WW-MW scene PBF opponents need to stop trying to out box him. He may get old one night but until then they should watch the first half of the Cotto and DLH fights along with the first Jose Luis Castillo fight and try to drag PBF into a brawl.
