I put down five dollars on Vera. Perhaps with his tenacity and high punching volume he'll do something surprising.

Vera is the epitome of a warrior. He's giving up some real size here, but he's going to fight his ass off as always. Chavez Jr. cannot be in the best of shape. I'm pulling for Vera!
It would be hilarious if Vera won or even made this very competitive, but realistically he won't. Even if Chavez is out of shape and unmotivated, he is better than Vera, has a chin, and hits well hard enough to put the guy away. If Chavez truly can't even make 168 these days though, he will either be matched up against complete stiffs or lose very soon.
without a doubt, he was barely beating the smaller guys until his size advantage would kick in, guys like Lee, Rubio, and Zbik were all ahead at one point later on in the fight, his 20 lb weight advantage wore them down and he took over, what real hope is there for the guy against guys where he doesn't possess that advantage? none really, IMO Hopkins (even an ancient one) would school him easier than he did Cloud, Froch would outbox him as he did Bute and Kessler in the rematch, Ward well does the same as Hopkins, Chavez Jr should be at Cruiserweight, seeing how he barely made Lt Heavy
This is a "win-win" for everyone.
If Chavez Jr. wins, McDonald's gets all the credit. (Well.... Sulaiman always takes a cut).
If Vera wins, it's comparable to David saying "the hell with the stone..... I'm gonna knock that muthafukka Goliath out with my fists!!"
I am not a Chavez Jr. fan but like all of you I am a boxing fan. They chose Vera because he is supposed to be an easy touch. The things Jr. gets away with sticks in my craw, especially the weight games. It's too late to do anything about it tonight but whatever he does, the guys on this forum are taking notes. I say get him a real opponent and at a weight he doesn't have to use diuretics to set things straight and no catch weights, just a good opponent who is truly a fighter that has a desire to win. He either tows the line or loss number two becomes a reality he has to live with and no excuses this time. If he continues to be lazy he will reveal himself to be a flash in the pan and boxing will forget him. Everything else is irrelevant.
He'll always have his blind...er.... loyal... fans, who will defend him, and find an excuse for any shit he pulls off.
Luckily, there a whole lot more of us who know better.
Chavez did look a bit drained at the weigh in(fuck knows how, the lazy idiot), while Vera looked to be in good condition. Probably won't be enough, but here's hoping for an upset
