Default World Series of Boxing- why did it have to start?

I'm curious about the World Series of Boxing format. To me, it looks like professional fighting. So, what is the difference between that and turning professional?

I know it says that WSB fights are, technically, amateur fights and the fighters maintain their amateur status; meaning they can still fight at the Olympics and World Championships, etc.... But they look like professional fights to me and I don't think anyone from that rank should fight at amateur ever again.

I don't think, logically, they can be classifieds as amateur fights. You know? What is the limit of fights one can have at these WSB fights, the purse size and the logic behind it aside from turning full-on professional?

I think the intent of it although not stated in their mandate was/is to allow amateurs to get a taste of the pro ranks w/o losing Olympic eligibility. 5 3 minute rounds, no head gear and three judges. Quite a few guys that participated in the tourney went on to win medals in London.

I got mixed feelings about it also. Almost seems a little silly to give them the taste and then go back to the gloves with white scoring spots that are heavier and an antiquated bullshit scoring system.

Figures that Europeans feature prominently in it. A lot of them have to be dragged into turning professional.
