Interesting fight. Garcia is a big framed lad. I can see him at light weight by early 2015 maybe sooner. Unlike Donaire, Garcia punches with both hands with pin point accuracy to boot. Tough fight amigo but lean to Garcia gun to my head.
Donaire didn't always have a strategy of just trying to land the left hook, but at some point in time, he became a guy who just looks for the big punch. It wasn't just in the Rigo fight either. He's done it before.
Back to the point, I'm not so sure Garcia beats him. How would Garcia handle someone faster and difficult to hit? At the same time, Garcia has such a nasty jab.
Donaire got used to knocking out smaller men and getting on the highlight reel. He got a false sense of security from it and started buying into all the hype. Fell in love with himself and believed his left hand was the shot that would get him out of all circumstances. My god Vic walked to his leftthe entire fight with his left hand low on many occasions taking away Donaires left and he barely attempted a straight right hand or right of any kind. So you had a southpaw asking for the right.
I'm not sure Garcia beats him either. I think he would based on what I have seen. Mickeys punch selection and short accurate crisp shots would be the difference. He's so compact to and also an excellent counter puncher. Timing beats speed.
Yeah I think Garcia would have to be favoured, size alone would probably carry him through. If Rigondeaux could hurt him or at least gain major respect early it's a great technical fight where he may have an edge even. I suspect he'd have the right style to fight Mikey and could win from long range if he could keep it there. Garcia has a great jab and knows how to close distance with it though, and on the inside it would be all him. Two great fighters with lots of other interesting opponents more their size imo.
Why should it be a catchweight? Rigo up to 126, Garcia down to 126 and the fight makes sense. At 126 Rigo would win as have serious doubts about Garcias ability to make that weight without killing himself. Id lean towards Rigo at 128 too in a similar fight to the donaire fight
i would say that garcia wins. i think that rigo would have his moments, but garcia would be the aggressor and land some good shots. i dont see rigo being able to outbox garcia.
Damn! Are you guys ever going to give Rigo credit for winning that fight? The only thing I ever hear is that Nonito lost that fight.
I'm not a Rigo fan, but I think Donaire was doomed when he stepped through the ropes. Except got one flash KD, Nonito was never in that fight.
I would love to see Garcia vs Rigondeaux! One thing for sure, Rigo is not going to going to be in anything even remotely like a slugfest. I'm thinking tossup.
If Rigo was just a little more exciting he would be everyone's fav.
Something happened with Donaire along the way where he stopped boxing and started looking for bombs. He is the best example of falling in love with your power. The next good boxer he faces does it to him again.
I like Garcia, he is quality, balance, composure and skill but Rigo would win because Garcia would struggle to make the weight.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Regardless of the outcome it's an intriguing fight.
Does Garcia remind anyone of Marquez because he is a precise, counter-puncher?
The idea behind this thread is to find a mega-fight for Garcia. Around that weight, who can he face that would be a really big fight? Rigo, Donaire, Mares, are all guys coming up in weight, but are big names with the aforementioned guys being with Top Rank.

Dunno but that's a good question. Based on size and style you'd have to favor Garcia but I could see Rigo's accurate fast counter punching being an equalizer, as well as being more comfortable in his own skin. The KD from Martinez will be good for him and i liked his matter of fact response when talking about it. Garcia has made some solid strides but I'd loke to see him settle down, not only in approach just a hair but in weight. I can't see Hbo making this though after Rigo pants & spanked there previous big thing star wise but you never know.
