I don't know about that, but I think he's perhaps got a better skillset than anyone outside of Wlad. He has a fight coming up on the Bute-Pascal undercard which is nice, hope he hasn't been to rattled by what happened against Mago in his last fight. Power and size are already his shortcomings, he can't afford to lose an edge.

I like Mike Perez, I think he is a decent, entertaining Heavyweight. I'd say the guy is clearly top 10 in the division right now, but 3rd is a little high for me. His size might be his downfall in this division.

Wish he had more power but his size will be his real limiter at heavy, in my opinion.

UMMMMM yeah I'm going to have to disagree on that. Talented as he is he's not #3. Maybe he's the 3rd best SMALL heavyweight, but he's got a ways to go and plenty of people to fight before being #3 in the world.

6'1, 20 wins, 12 KO....not especially great on defense, little to no pop, not super fast. He just seems average, consistent but average.

He fights Carlos Takam soon...that's a solid fight to be honest. If Takam slips a few of the shots Mago took and counters then Perez's 0 will soon be history.

I dont have a lot of faith in it to be honest. He looked "decent" against Abdusalamov, a guy who just walked forward with no defense. I wasn't really impressed with Perez's skill, he landed a lot of clean shots but he also took a lot of punches himself.

He's a short guy by today's HW standards and seems like he weights 30lbs more than he should.

If you're going to be successful as a small heavyweight then you're going to have to either be technically and tactically brilliant or extremely gifted athletically. You basically have to be a freak of nature or just a brilliant fighter.

    Earnie Shavers or Chris Byrd

Those are your options and Perez sure doesn't punch like Earnie and he can't move like Chris.

Carlos Takam isn't a world beater, but he's built like a brick shit house and he's got some fairly quick hands.

    You be the judge

Carlos Takam has got no chance if that form with Greg Tony is to be believed.

It's unfair to call Perez a powderpuff puncher, for sure he's a small heavyweight by todays standards, but he's already blasted out some giants. He needs to be kept active, which finally seems to be happening and although obviously not the 3rd best in the world on current form he's probably the current best to watch.

Perez-Magomed, tragic as it is, was the best heavyweight fight in ages. That's why Perez is straight back on HBO.

That fight vs Tony was 3 years ago #1 and #2 Perez fought Tony in a 3 rounder, Takam fought him in an 8 rounder HUGE difference!

Who has Perez "blasted out"? Tye Fields

Wouldn't have mattered if Tony faced Perez in a 60 seconder let alone a three rounder. "If that form is to be believed" - means that I understand that paper form isn't the gospel.

Perez has enough crack to get respect off any heavyweight. That's how I see it anyway.

Alright IF Takam is in that horrible form, yeah he'll probably lose...big IF

Yeah Perez has pop if you allow him to wind up and smack you, but he's got below average power for a contender. Also he took some punishment in the Mago fight too let's not forget, and fighters can wilt after such a difficult physical match.

I'm picking Takam by 8th round TKO

I'd like to see Perez beat a Arreola or Andy Ruiz Jr before we even discuss him taking on the big boys.
